New posters in Middlesbrough Town Centre

Whilst I sometimes feel that local authorities are damned if they do and damned if they don't, on this occasion this idea was so clearly ill-conceived that I'm surprised that it has been signed off (presumably) by some relatively senior MBC staff.

For an area like Teesside, this was playing into directly tired stereotypes and dumbing down like this should be the opposite image of what they should be trying to convey.

Hardly the actions of a Town with City aspirations.

Definitely cringe worthy.

I don’t understand Teesside’s fascination with a parmo, especially when they’re hell bent on explaining them to someone from elsewhere expecting them to be fascinated by it when they’re not even interested. Bizarre indeed.

I don't really get the fascination myself but it's not restricted to Teessiders to be fair. I've had a Londoner and an Irishman start talking to me about them unprompted on finding out where I was from.

If you watch a youtuber called ozzyman he mentions "chicken parmy" down the pub.

A disgruntled employee getting their own back? Slip a few mad ideas in and hope no one notices. This is the only logical explanation for such a stupid outcome.

I firmly believe this will have been signed off at the top, totally misjudged this one and now frantically backtracking and saying the media team made a mistake.

this so called talented publicity team must be Geordies or mackems, granted a free kick at making the folk of Boro look stupid.
"We are gormless and thicker than mince" should begiven pride of place outside the town hall.

£13,000 minimum these banners cost without saying what other costs such as consultation fees were charged during the decision process.

Middlesbrough council need to come out and explain for this much tax payers money, in a time of austerity and mass food banks, how they can justify this outlay.

- What was the purpose?
- Who were the target audience?
- What was the message they were trying to convey?
- Who overseen and signed off on these messages been chosen to be displayed?

Someone needs to explain this process and take accountability?
