New car

ST, I had to go back and forth to Amsterdam for a year. All the cab drivers drove Tesla Model 3's. I loved them. My mate had one and he hated it. You pays your money. Oh I also think you can get them in 4 different shades of white too.
:)

Yeah I might hate the looks but I might love the car. Funny I'm not a big fan of my current car. I like the looks, think it's fab but when I'm using it I can't see the looks and just get to see an old fashioned, dull interior.

Wev: no I'm going to Tesla in Chiswick to test drive. I'm based down south. When I first moved here that garage housed loads of classic cars. Old Ferraris and maserattis mainly. Now it's a Tesla dealership. The times they are a changing .

They have some cool features. The way the window rolls down a touch when you open the doors and rolls back up again when you close the door. Geeky I know, but I love em. Also the 55 inch plasma tv screen is kinda cool.

They are very sedan looking, but then so is a mondeo and they are a joy to drive.

The 4 cylinder boxster has been a sales disaster for them, they're about to revamp the range. For all things Porsche range I'd recommend Nick Murray on YouTube he gives very honest reviews of the range and goes through option lists and packages etc to compare value.

Are they? Good it might knock the prices down. I honestly don't get the 4 cylinder issue. Every base model Porsche in history had a 4 cylinder engine up until the original Boxster. Then every car company took two cylinders off their performance engines and fitted turbo chargers. It's both in tune with the times and traditional to cheap Porsches. Sad it didn't work out

He loves the new GTS that is coming though

So I actually like the Tesla. I drove the performance version. To experience a 0-60 of 3.2 seconds in a small basic saloon car was insane. My brain couldn't compute what the little guy was doing!

Sadly the other half moaned about it being uncomfortable. 'sake

Not strictly true, it has seen a decline in the US and also, to a much lesser extend, in Europe (but then sports cars sales have generally been falling here anyway).

The real reason for the 'reduction' from the 6 to the 4 pot was the Chinese market, where sales will no doubt make the decision a good one, from a profit point of view at least.

I appreciate that, but they have announced they're dropping the 4 cylinders, if they were making a good enough amount of profit from China to cover the shortfall they would have stuck with the 4 cylinder surely

Or is the base model keeping it?

Its only the GTS that's moving back to the 6, the other three variants will stay with the 4 cylinder. I'm guessing that will see the used prices for the 4 cylinder GTS drop a lot!

I think the real-world truth with the 4 cylinder engines, is that they're brilliant, with loads more low down pull than the 6, making them much more usable, but they don't have the top end sound that the 6 does - but then how often to people drive through to the redline anyway? Its a compromise I suppose, but if you've never driven the 6 you'll still love the sound of the 4, especially with the sports exhaust.

That's what I thought. Every review I see about the car complains about the engine and specifically it's noise. I just think, huh? It sounds fine by me. It's not bad at all. It's also much more in tune with the times than having more cylinders and being normally aspirated.

I should caveat that: Although my current car does have a 3.0l V6 engine it is a diesel and I test drove a tesla yesterday so my recent engine noise experience has been either "rattle" or " "

A porsche makes you environmental vandal shame on you get an eco frie

You failed to finish your quote, but I suggest you do some research. Which Porsche are you talking about? The Boxster and cayman? which we've discussed on here have tiny, eco friendly turbo engines? or maybe you were thinking of the Taycan?

Obviously we'll all be driving electric eventually and its not necessarily bad, just a different experience I suppose.

I think the issue with the 718 engine is that its been mostly criticised by motoring jounos, who are used to driving cars to their limit and not necessarily in the real world. Many of the 'real-world' reviews (anyone with a go-pro is on Youtube these days) are far more positive about the engine.

More power, in short.
Also a potential by product of that, if you drive gently: potentially better fuel economy.

A sports exhaust allows the engine to get rid of waste gasses quicker or more efficiently, therefore allowing the engine to produce more power, basically. The offset of this, is more noise, hence why most cars aren't fitted with them

Not when the noisy exhaust was on a clapped out Escort with the rear box scraping on the road it didn't / they didn't :(
So, I've signed up for a new car, leasing it.

It doesn't have ANY exhaust at all. Not sure what that means re the size of my penis but it probably isn't good.
