New car

£35k for a vehicle - you can buy a small house for that in half of Teesside.

I try to buy something that depreciates less then £1k a year over its first 8 years.

Depends on the vehicle doesn't it? It's a hell of a price for a 3 year old Porsche.

Time has come to start looking at a new car and I honestly can't decide between a sporty fun car and a dull electric for sensible reasons.

However I'm going to test drive a 718 Boxster at the weekend. Fully loaded, looks great value.

Has anyone ever had one? Any experience? issues to look out for?
ST get an RX8, put 3 grand aside for an engine rebuild and you will have the best car you will ever drive, barr none.

I had considered an RX8 a while ago. They are too dated now though, and not really "modern world" with that engine!

The speed limit is 70 mph any faster is illegal whether your caught or not ,any car that accelerates fast is a lethal weapon in the right hands or the wrong ones.
Some cars shows /car reviews are stupid why do i want to watch people driving round in supercars that are made for the stupidly rich?nearly every review is for cars over £35000 when the majority of us pay about £8000 on average.

I love people who say "they speed limit is 70". Makes me laugh.

Look you don't get cars, I understand.
Lots of people aren't car people as you can see on this thread lots ARE car people though. Maybe you should just remove yourself from a thread discussing cars rather than go on some holier than thou crusade

Loathe to post on this thread, but it looks like the OP got both the argument he was looking for and the chance for a "humble boast" too.

@turnoffsaysthestar - you're giving him exactly what he wants...
You're wrong. I was looking for advice.

I got it too, so thanks to Red as, Jonny, laughing and artie for your input. Shame some people had to spoilt the thread by arguing (and not about cars)

I had a new 718 Boxster for a year, the best thing I've ever driven.

I had the "Standard" 300 BHP one with the auto and it was rapid, didn't see any need for the S, and I thought it handled better than the older 911. I think the new 911 has the same chassis as the 718, so that will of course be better, but I don't see how it's worth it for another 40k.

I think the Chrono gives you the dial on the steering wheel for the different modes, but I rarely used these. There is a button in the centre though, which gives you 30 seconds of high revs, and that is really good fun.

Get one with a rear camera if you can, mine just had the sensors, and they're not that great, which contributed to me dinging the rear diffuser on mine.

Also, get the adaptive cruise, if you can, that saved me twice from a likely crash (neither my fault), where the car reacted far faster than I ever could.

I only sold mine as I wasn't getting enough use out of it, as I didn't like driving to meetings in it, and it forced even less use out of the Westfield in the garage. I also didn't like putting my golf clubs on the passenger seat, so I've now got a 430 Gran Coupe.

I feel I have to say how pathetic and puerile some of the responses have been to this OP, effectively trying to shame him for wanting to discuss sonerhing that he's passionate about.

Some people need to be careful they don't hurt themselves when they fall off their high horse.

The new board has encouragingly seemed more mature in its tone and content, but this thread sadly reminds me of the worst side of fmttm.

Think you're exaggerating the tone of responses. What's this cobblers about being amused at the speed limit?
