New car

Time has come to start looking at a new car and I honestly can't decide between a sporty fun car and a dull electric for sensible reasons.

However I'm going to test drive a 718 Boxster at the weekend. Fully loaded, looks great value.

Has anyone ever had one? Any experience? issues to look out for?

The cops in your rear-view mirror. You'll struggle to keep it to the speed limit.
It's not THAT quick. I can only afford the 2.0l not the S or the GTS!

That being said, when I test drove it the first time round it was tricky, coming from driving a powerful but very heavy diesel.

You can pick up top Mercs for next to nothing really, CLS and S Class Coupe's etc. Buyers market at the moment.
I already own a CLS! Looking for something a little more exciting. Must admit you’re right though I was surprised at how cheap the Boxster was. I guess that’s what happens when no cars have been sold for months

I'm looking for a Boxter at the moment too coincidentally.

What you looking for specifically?
Sadly due to budget pretty much the only thing on my list is a 2017 718.
It's all about the spec for me really. I do motorway miles so cruise control is a must (Very rare to find this specced ) and, after seeing the miracles that my CLS' LED lights can do I want one with PDLS+

I'm a driver so would love PASM and the sport chronopack but the latter would almost certainly make it too pricey.

Also, despite being a car guy I actually want a 718 over a six cylinder 986. I know the engine is far better in the 986 but I just love the styling of the 718. Plus Porsches entry level car has always had a 4 cylinder.

I'd check with the main dealer as I think there's an option to retro-fit cruise control. Might be worth looking at if you see something that you really like and that's all it's missing.

What are we calling cheap here?

2017 low mileage good spec it looks like you can pick up for less the £35k, early 30's for slightly higher mileage. Quite surprised at that to be honest, not much more than my HR-V, which admittedly is the top spec, but even so...sort of thing I might like in a year or 2 even if it meant I no longer could go camping. Mrs Fufkin would never sign it off though, not yet anyway! Would have to be a Cayman though, soft tops don't flick my switch in this climate, despite the May weather we've enjoyed

I wouldn't write the 4 cylinder off too much, its a much more usable engine that the 6 and doesn't sound half as bad a some people would have you believe.

Given the options you mentioned (albeit not cruise) then I'd be looking at the T, which is the trim level between the base version and the S and has some great, driver focussed, options.

I've noticed recently that main dealers have a much reduced stock, so price wise it may be worth holding out a few more weeks.

Thanks Jonny. I'll check out that T. I must admit I assumed that was a "Turbo" version (I know, but you know Porsche branding) then the released the GTS and I realise the T was a more stripped down car

I drive a Suzuki sz4 cost me £4000 2 years ago with 19000 miles on the clock, now i am thinking of buying a Peugot Rifter gt line but i cannot see me paying the £15000 for a second hand one .
I can afford it but don't like wasting money .

I think we have very different requirements for cars!

They're all turbo engines, the base and T being 2L and the S and GTS being 2.5L

The T has a great spec and is probably the best value in the range - the stripped down description is mislrading though, its not

No I meant Porsche "turbo" branding. As in they give the 911, cayenne and Panamera performance versions "Turbo" branding even though they are all turbo and they give the performance Taycan a "turbo" branding even though it's not possible to turbocharge it.

I just assumed that's what the T stood for!

Thanks for the advice though I'll put Boxster Ts on my wish list

a standard car any one including a dacia whatever can do nearly a hundred miles an hour why any one needs a car that will do 150 miles per hour is beyond me.
posing possibly?
