Hope we have inserted a sell on clause could be a very tidy bit of business if we do, because I can’t see Villa qualifying for champs league a second successive season but I can see a bigger club coming in for Rogers
 
People forget that all these professional footballers are better than 99.9% of us. We have no concept of how good they actually are. Calling them donkeys or “stealing a living” is incredibly short sighted. So many different factors involved that determine whether they will be successful.

Attitude is crucial (see Djed Spence). Luck and timing are massive factors. Playing for the right manager alongside the right teammates. Playing in a team with confidence. Rogers looked poor at times for us, but playing out of position in a team that was woeful.

Take a world class player like Bruno Fernandes. When MU are playing well he looks like he’d get in a World XI. When they are playing badly he’s sulky, petulant and looks bang average. Put him in our team and there would be plenty of people saying he’s not worth the shirt.
 
Watched the Villa match at the weekend— I’d say he was the standout player in the game. It might be a little early to see him in an England shirt but I doubt it won’t be too long before that happens.

I know a Villa season ticket holder who up to now has always said Rogers has been ‘doing alright’.

The more well known he is the more measures will be put in place to nullify him and it is at that stage we will see if he is anything special.

Football history is lttered with players who started off poor or average and then came good and started off poor or average ad just stayed that way

The entire football community and all the world class coaches at Man City obviously tought the same and sold him to us for next to sweet FA

Rogers still has a way to go doesn't he really?.....................what is worth 80 million these days mean, Chelsea have dozens of them in the reserves

I agree. Every fan has had a stinker like this in the past - we're so quick to jump on a player who's on a bad run of form.

I rated Rogers from day one. However... I also said "how many more chances does Akpom need?"... before he was given one more chance and scored 27 goals.

What do we reckon is a big sell on fee, must be north of 20% maybe 25%.

If he goes for 80 -100 in a year or two that could be anywhere between another 12-20 million coming in.

I don’t want to hoof another thread but this was a comment from another poster on a thread I started about Rogers in December 2023:

He is bang average. And who said his touch is always good hahaha??? The ball bounces off him. With a fully fit squad he is not where near the starting XI.

Another decent performance against lower league opposition and he's hailed as a supreme talent by some. Strange.
