To be fair, Stoke have been publicly linked with him since the 4th of August, it's not like their interest has came out of the blue to gazzump us.

It's not done yet, hopefully we can increase our offer to beat them in the race.
It's a tough ask, Stoke are a richer club, but at least their league position is scarcely better than ours and they've played worse than us.
 
Though it sticks in my throat to say it...it looks like Sheff Utd have signed a real gem in Anel Ahmedhodzic.
For around £4m it looks like they have signed an excellent attack-minded centre half

Painful reading perhaps given our fruitless search so far....but quite interesting how long these transfers can take to make happen.

Brighton are looking for a new centre back but it won’t be Fry apparently.
 
I think it's more a case of Stoke have wanted him for weeks and we are trying to 'pip' them.

I mean we've been after Greaves all this time and suddenly he's not available Clarke is our target. So he's definitely the plan B Wilder mentioned at his presser.

We wouldn't be signing him if we'd got Greaves. So I wouldn't be to quick to say 'oh not again'. I'd imagine Stoke are (were) much further down the line than us. It's Boro who are trying to scupper a deal.

I hope he can see past league position and start. Then again Stoke look awful. Just show him the match from last Wednesday 😂

Are Stoke really a richer club? Surely the parachute payments have run out now. They possibly still have large contracts and amortisations on the books as well. Boro have cleared the decks and raised at least £20m through sales and have made a lot of space on the wage bill.

If Boro want to go up, these are the sorts of deals they NEED to be completing IMO.

Their owners are billionaires, ours is only a millionaire.

I doubt Clarke is going to cost so much that they'll have to be concerned about P&S, and he probably won't cost so much that Gibson can't compete, but they can probably offer more if push comes to shove.
