London stabbing

Usually in places that sell kitchenware. They're used in food preperation. I've got two at home I use, are you saying I've got no justification for owning one? if that's the case I call out your kneejerk BS.
Machetes are valid tools to use in the kitchen that sadly get missused so many times, but saying it should be as hard to get as a gun is just downright stupidity and total ignorance.
No, but two machetes, which is what you were saying I had no justification for owning. Do you still think that after my response or are you going to try to deflect by now going on about swords?
You came up with an ill-informed, kneejerk reaction and asked the question where do you buy a machete from, then saying surely there's no justification for owning one.
So yes, there is plenty of justification for owning one, but no justification at all or using one against people.

Out of curiosity? Are you referring to a meat clever?

If not, specifically, what do you use a machete in the kitchen for?

What do you cut up in your kitchen that requires two machetes?

Are you in the NRA?

I would guess that police carrying conventional firearms didnt arrive until the subject had already been arrested.
There's ring footage of this happening. They manage to corner him on someones front seconds before armed forces arrive.

Are you sure they are machete knives and not a butchers knife or butchers steak knife?
Butchers knives are similar shape to a machete and are usually around 30cm long and are obviously used for cutting large chunks of meat.
A machete is used more like an axe and was designed for cutting sugar cane or cleaning thick foliage and is very front heavy and although not impossible to use as a kitchen knife it would be quite difficult as they are hacking tool rather than a chopping or cutting tool which is normally used in kitchens and would lack the precision of good quality kitchen knife.
If you are using machetes as kitchen knives then I would recommend looking into something more practical that will make your life easier when preparing food. I use two different kitchen knives for cutting and preparing pretty much every food in the kitchen(no.2 Chinese chopper and a 3" pairing knife).

Absolutely devastating for the family of the young lad. Worries me a lot as I live in East London not a million miles away from there, my kids (16 & 12) don't go out that much on their own other than walking to and from school, but it can happen any time, thankfully it's not something that happens at random very often.

Social media has made it cool to carry a blade - just as it's cool to wear a hoody or a face covering. I'm sure a lot of these lads carrying knives have no intention of using them UNTIL they do. It's the same with wannabee gangsters who are carrying guns.

my assumption was a machete was used to cut outdoor foliage hence my comment about the lack of necessity in this country.

why did the police not shoot him ?
They shot him with two tasers from what I saw on the news, within 22 mins of first 99 call. and some of that time was pursuing and cornering him. Pretty decent response from the police from what I saw, but obviously tragic for the kid & family.

As already mentioned by Norman Conquest if you watch the tv show Inside the force the current series is in Middlesbrough and it's unbelievable what's going on here. Latest one has a young woman stabbing another in the neck. It's scary as fook what's going on in our town.

According to their research, with more than 760 crimes per 10,000 residents, Blackpool is the most violent area in England and Wales. That's followed by Middlesbrough with 657.6 violent crimes per 10,000 residents.12 Jan 2024

Oh really? When and why was Glasgow the centre of machete and sword attacks?
I associate Glasgow gangs in the 60s and 70s with swords, but that may just be because of the Billy Connolly routines I've half remembered

A terrible tragedy and also shocking for the police woman with her arm having to be surgically repaired - truly horrific.
