Litter, why are people so scruffy?

There is a big team in Billingham fighting up the clear up war every week - they shouldn't need to but they do and are backed by more and more of the community.
It has to be made really unacceptable to do. And as said above if you clear up your dog dirt into bag do not leave the bad behind.
Yesterday I posted the story about CCTV in Linthorpe Middlesbrough (Little) Theatre car park partly to stop people eating and dumping fast food there.
Getting more and more of the community mobilised and tidying up helps - it has in Billingham but we really need to change attitudes and responsibilities look after your own place, take it home or you should stay at home.

Have recently helped a local group do some litter picking, it is un believeable how much litter on estates.
Cans, plastic bottles, McDonald's packaging etc, filled 5 bags in around a distance of a mile on one road.
Did same route as last Friday, unbelievable, we collected 6 bags today.
We've been advised bt Billingham tidy group to tie bags leave by a bin and take a photo and they get council to collect.
I was shocked when the shopkeeper came out and asked not to leave the bags as they'd not be removed.
Find this attitude part of problem as he was OBSTRUCTIVE IN WHAT WE WERE DOING considering we picked up around 50 cans from around his shop area you'd think he'd be more helpful.
JUST TO ADD WE DID LEAVE A BAG THERE AN HOUR EARLIER AND SAW THIRTEEN GROUP CLEAR BINS AND THEY THE TOOK FIRST BAG

I've walked Wynyard to Thorpe Thewles today, whist at TT I saw a council operative walking a length of the walkway filling his bag with litter. After walking back and nearing Wynyard Woodland car park I saw the same lad doing the same at that end. He was from Stockton Council. Good to see the litter being picked up and someone in employment but the littler and dog poo bags in trees shouldn't be there in the first place.

I filled about 20 bags from a 4 mile loop around my house during the first lockdown. Just took a bag with me a couple of times a week and I was taking them to work as our recycling bins were virtually empty as we worked with a skeleton staff, but that's different now.

Went for a jog on that route last week and it looks as bad as a year ago, but I just don't have the space in my bin.

Almost half of it was energy drink cans and Lucozade bottles. Interesting how it doesn't give you enough energy to carry an empty container home to your bin.

It’s a disgrace. I taught my daughter and son from an early age that littering was bad. They wouldn’t dream of leaving rubbish behind or throwing on the floor.

It's so annoying, why do people want to live amongst mess, the shop owner really p****D me off aswell considering all the red bull, monster cans will have mainly come from his shop, you'd think he'd be pleased people were tidying up outside.

There was a black disposable mask in the driveway on Thursday so as I was putting the bin out anyway I thought I'd pick it up. I put on one of those plastic gloves you get at petrol station forecourts, I keep a few in the glove box and bent down to pick it up. Turns out it was a flipping thong! WTF that was there I'll never know but it beats doing a massive sneeze while wearing one as my least favourite mask related incident

Just been jogging down Burlam Road, there was a lady litter picking. I thanked her and as I continued running the pavement was littered in McDonalds bags, cartons and drinks all discarded. Very sad to see.

Was out walking from Acklam Road over A19 and then around the old River Tees and then back along the Tees itself - there is a quite horrendous problem in some areas now. Masses of take away rubbish hoyed out of cars, most especially McDonalds. You can see wherever one person throws their McDonalds litter another follows. The rubbish trail between Teesside Park and the Barrage is heartbreaking.
We probably need to get all our councils and communities to sign up here for this big Spring clean up in May - it is going to be essential I think but it is achievable - they are winning the battle in Billingham but it is only by sustained mass action.

I was once in the queue at Coulby McDonalds and the ‘lady’ in the car in front got to the serving hatch and dropped a load of boxes and drinks.

I got out of the car to help her thinking she had dropped all the food only to find she had thrown out the old boxes from last time before taking receipt of the new.

I must admit I was shocked.

What annoys me is why should others have to pick up the litter of the pigs who throw it into the street?

Something not quite right about giving these people a free ride all the time.

Some people who use plastic bottles seem to think it's against the law to put it in a bin
Saw an old woman watching her dog have a shi.)t , and then walk away as I drove past this morning 😡

Oh I know we should not have to pick up the litter of others but if we don't then our towns and edgelands will be appalling.
If you go over to somewhere with a big litter picking community then you hope the sight of all those people out picking pricks the conscience in some or at least makes someone somewhere thing twice about dropping rubbish. But if we do nothing then our environment is really in trouble.

I don’t get why people would think it’s ok to drop their litter wherever they may be. Particularly in the countryside where there are no bins around any packaging you use needs taking home with you and binning/recycling - if you’re capable of carrying it there you’re capable of taking it back with you

I think the people who do it just think the council will clear it up.
That's the issue now, councils don't pick litter anymore, we are part of the Billingham group. The group as a whole has collected hundreds upon hundreds of bags.
Maybe when we don't have to social distance us as a Boro fan group could do some work together 👍
