Litter, why are people so scruffy?

Have recently helped a local group do some litter picking, it is un believeable how much litter on estates.
Cans, plastic bottles, McDonald's packaging etc, filled 5 bags in around a distance of a mile on one road.

I regularly see the remains of Kentucky or McDonalds meals discarded on the road leading from Flatts Lane to the Nunthorpe to Guisborough Road. This is young lads or lasses who have been for a takeaway and think it is OK to just throw their waste out of the car window.

It's something that I really cannot comprehend and it blows my mind when I see people doing it.

Last year (or probably longer ago now, as it was pre-Covid) I was called all the names under the sun by a couple of young 'lads' I was walking behind when the both dropped their food wrappers on the ground. They were right next to a bin and I politely pointed that out to them and you can image their comments towards me ......

So I picked up their rubbish and stuck it in the bin whilst have my parentage and sexual orientation questioned by the charming gents. Cretins, utter cretins! (y)

Mate you should see the state of the paths and roads outside the takeaways on my street, the thing is there are bins right next to the takeaways but some people seem to just throw it on the floor, ***** me off actually.

a complete lack of personal accountability. Its always someone else's problem and responsibility to clean up after these scrotes.

Same as the people who use dot leave their mess in fast food restaurants rather than putting it in the bin. "well someone else will clean it up"

Sad that weemoby, they sound utter dispicable chavs, I would be appauldd & ashamed if my son, daughter, son in law spoke like that

What absolutely baffles me is dog walkers picking S H I T up but then leaving bag on floor, if youve took the time to pick it up why can't you be ars ed to put it in bin 🙄

because they are worried that someone saw them not pick it up in the first place, so they pick it and bag it, only to chuck it when no one is looking.

another level of lazy sneakiness.

Single use gloves, face coverings, black plastic bags filled with dog ****.
I see it all every day on my walks.
I understand why responsible dog owners/walkers get indignant when the blame is attached to them in a general way but answer me this - when was the last time anybody saw a stray dog?

I remember when Climate Extinction were protesting in Leeds (2019??) and thinking what a bloody mess - although I didn't see how they left the site.

Or was it the equipment and other possessions confiscated by the police, as suggested in the link.

There is a big team in Billingham fighting up the clear up war every week - they shouldn't need to but they do and are backed by more and more of the community.
It has to be made really unacceptable to do. And as said above if you clear up your dog dirt into bag do not leave the bad behind.
Yesterday I posted the story about CCTV in Linthorpe Middlesbrough (Little) Theatre car park partly to stop people eating and dumping fast food there.
Getting more and more of the community mobilised and tidying up helps - it has in Billingham but we really need to change attitudes and responsibilities look after your own place, take it home or you should stay at home.

As I said the other day, it doesn't matter where we are, but I always carry the poo bag with me until I find a bin. Yes, it can wiff a bit, but I'd feel guilty if I just discarded it, even if no-one saw me.
As for fast food litter, it boils my **** when you drive into a car park and see the piles of it that have clearly been dumped out of parked cars, like a scutty chalk outline around the scene of a crime.

Now that councils have zero funding for litter and dog crap wardens the problem is getting worse and worse.

If the scruffy chavs thought they might get a £500 fine then they might think twice.

It's sad isn't it. Really can't understand the mentality of people that want their local area to look like a dump.

Well done to you weemoby for having a go at two of then. Have to admit, I probably wouldn't just because as you said I can imagine the chew you got back off them.

When I go fishing and pick the spot I am going to fish from, the first thing I do is bag any discarded litter around me. I would hate for anyone to walk up and think that I had thrown it away.

I will then check again before leaving.
