Linthorpe Road Cycle Path

What's people views?

Seemingly cycle paths on both sides of the road from Ayresome Street down to Borough Road, speed limits of 20mph in places and very limited parking spaces on Linthorpe Road at a cost of £900,000

Everytime I go down Linny Road, especially on an Evening the existing parking spaces are rammed - where will all these cars now park. The view from the council is a lot of lazy owners are just parking outside their businesses.

Given that a large number of businesses are take aways then I can see car owners just ignoring the new layout and parking outside which ever take away they are using.

"Business owners" describes the area as a "vibrant" part of town - presumably the person saying that managed to keep a straight face whilst speaking.

They cant ignore the new layout as barriers will stop them from parking outside their shops in the lanes?

Fair point - assuming they actually install barriers?

They may as well just make it a pedestrianised precinct - every time a bus stops the traffic will grind to halt behind it.

Perhaps thats the ultimate plan, to just sicken people so they actually stop using it.

Do you think like Newcastle they need to keep carbon emissions down in the centre of town. Is that also a factor.

No idea. Does anyone measure the emissions?

Won't be a problem soon as apart from students going to the Art College there will be no reason for anyone to visit the town centre.

Ridiculous idea removing parking , they should provide more easy to use parking to attract people to go there .
Make it hard and people won't bother .
They will create a ghost town .
And , don't need a cycle path , it won't get used , white elephant .
Spend the money re routing the flyover to over the border , instead of through the centre of the town , who makes these stupid decisions ?

The shop owners are livid. I have just driven down Linny road and most of the windows have objection fliers pasted on them. I can see their point.

Utterly bizarre idea. Who even wants to ride down Linny road??

There have been numerous headlines talking about 'reducing the high street' and 'moving it further up'

Who knows,...maybe if all the current business in that area are forced to close or relocate, there might be an opportunity to use those buildings/shops for another purpose..........

In the 90's, it cost around £800,000 to paint the green bus lanes down Linthorpe road.
A few months later, Comcast dug it up.

Removing parking will hasten the death of that part of town.

It is a ridiculous decision and well I barely ever see a bicycle down there.

The council are a joke with this.

Is the point not to encourage more cycling and public transport and lessen our addiction to the car?

Another load of b0llocks from council. There will be no emissions in Town Centre soon. As there will be no shops for people to visit, very few live there anymore and all for a couple of cycles. One car load will bring more footfall than up to 4 bicycles. It will kill what restaurant trade we have left on Linthorpe Road. Look at Southfield Road being paved over a complete waste of time. For what reason to safeguard a few students with their headphones on and their faces glued to their phone screens.
