Linthorpe Road Cycle Path

The whole country is outcrying the death of the town centres and you are advocating moving shops out of the town centre.😭
Except for bicycle repairs shops for all those cyclists coming enmasse down Linthorope Road.
That "death" as a result of out-of-town shopping centres designed for the motorist. Engage brain - you are contradicting yourself.

I don't understand this comment - "just need better times when they are opened for business" - what does that mean?

Where do the families who want to eat at the restaurants on Linthorpe Rd park there cars when there's no spaces?
Whats with this big thing about "their cars"? Are they like a pet and need taking everywhere - leaving schitt behind and taking up space in other peoples environments?
Go somewhere without using your pet.
Get a bus into town and walk it.
Or get a taxi.
Why should pavements, walking areas and othe peoples neighbourhoods be sacrificed for someone elses tin box?
Put yourself in the feet of someone who is unable to drive and has no access to a vehicle.
You soon find alternatives and sharpen your planning and effective use of time management.
Its good for you to go without.
Its less expensive and more healthy.

The same reason as the poor hard done to motorist: shop / Cinema / Coffee / Boro..... but without clogging both sides of the road and filling peoples lungs with carbon monoxide.
Might help reduce obesity and heart problems by encouraging the drivers to use their feet to walk on instead of their arz.(y)
I honestly can't see the attraction for the healthy cyclist who enjoy riding around our beautiful countryside to cycle down dingy Linthorpe Road on the best of days.
And I cant see Mr and Mrs average going out to buy bikes to cycle into town to buy from whatever shops are still open.
I do enjoy watching the cyclists who actually go into town, whizzing round the pedestrian areas like it's a BMX track usually doing a wheelie.

Pedestrianisation and the opening of Regents Walk has been death of Redcar town centre.

Its coming anyway, how can a town centre compete with Teesside Park/Metro Centre where all the shops you could ever need are in one space, bars/restaurants too, free parking, better transport links etc. Along with the huge rise of online shopping the town centre wont exist as we know it within a few years. These spaces need to be reinvented for a more sustainable future if they are ever going to survive

Peerhaps that is because historically infrastructure has prioritised motor vehicles - sacrificing the safety of non road users and handed our streets to a four wheeled killing machine.

I dont see the point of having a cycle path for such a short distance.
On that logic there is point in having route for cars for such a short distance.

Agree with BBG throughout this thread, we should be doing absolutely everything to discourage motor vehicle use in urban areas and absolutely everything to encourage walking and cycling.

Probably because it’s so unsafe to cycle around most town centres, but that’s part of the mindset that we need to change. So many could cycle to work but choose to use their cars, need to make it convenient and safe for people if you ever expect people to change their habits

You'd expect a family with young children to walk it in the ******* rain would you?

You'd expect young families or women to walk it on Linthorpe Road at night? I wouldn't walk up and down Linny Road at night.

Not everyone is comfortable with using taxis - with good reason.

No one is talking about sacrificing pavements, walking areas etc.

"Put yourself in the feet of someone who is unable to drive and has no access to a vehicle" - well they'd have to what you suggest and get a bus/taxi and walk wouldn't they?

Every excuse to keep your arz warm.
If people get wet - so what - you dry off!
"You expect a family with children..."(?!)
I suggest the adults in the family lead by showing resillince and leadership - developing their kids practical skills and self-reliance.
Educate their kids to respect others and the environment - not to be selfish by promoting sharing, compassion and care for others.
Where does the tin box fit into that?

Whats stopping others doing the same?
Or is it just selfishness? Usually called "inconvenient".

How will the delivery drivers resupply the shops when most of them have back doors down alleyways or will that be the next thing banning large vehicles between 0900-1600, good luck with that.

I suggest you dont know what you're talking about, sorry.

Have you ever walked down Linthorpe Rd at night? No amount of resilience & leadership will make vulnerable women (and men) with kids feel safe amongst the jetsam that inhabits Linthorpe Rd at night

Hopefully they start taxing bike users. I am saying this as someone who owns a bike but still think this is a ridiculous plan.
It is very noble of you to want to pay tax despite being a cyclist, I however love not paying council tax or PAYE, reclaiming VAT with my cyclist discount & long may it continue.

There’s absolutely no way on earth I would wander around the area between the
Cenotaph and the town centre with my family at night. If I go down there it’s either in a car then parked up or in a taxi. I certainly wouldn’t be looking to park my motor anywhere on that awful wasteland that runs towards the shipmate and as for Parliament road and that neck of the woods words fail me.

Your gonna have to when they remove the parking on Linthorpe Road in favour of the cycle lane for the non existent cyclists....
Or alternatively do what everyone else is going to do.... Don't go !!!
