I don't get why Valdes gets pelters from some fans, it's not like he dropped clangers every week, he didn't, I can only think of one real clanger. He was better than Guzan and even his worst day was better than Lumley's best

Hopefully we've plucked a bit of a gem, perhaps similar to Lee Nicholls. He was reserve GK for MK Dons in League 1. Goes to Huddersfield and becomes GK of the season!

' He was better than Guzan' - well that settles it then! He was nowhere near as good as his pay-packet would suggest and he was a total bell.

True though. We tend to sign keepers who've not been first choice or had a worldie against us. This lad at least comes with a bit of form.

Although admittedly know nothing about him.

He’s at an age where he should expect some game time so I could see him get the cup games while he’s assessed over the season and push heaton/butland for number one by the end of the season.
It could be a huge season for him

I do think he was the best we had at the times( Guzan was shocking) but that doesn't say much really . Apart from Randolph, we haven't had a good keeper since possibly Schwartzer.

What would you say constitutes a good back up??

When he played he wasn't up to the standard, let in some soft goals and was unable to play the style the management wants.

I'm not against him stopping, but would prefer 2 new keepers.
Don't remember him letting in soft goals

It is hard to judge from clean sheets alone because they're really a team stat. You can keep a lot of clean sheets with a mediocre keeper as long as they are not gaffe prone.

I'd take fan's opinions over a single stat.

I do think he was the best we had at the times( Guzan was shocking) but that doesn't say much really . Apart from Randolph, we haven't had a good keeper since possibly Schwartzer.

I wonder if we could get Randolph back, he never even played at all last year, not even one minute. Only made the bench in Europa league, and didn't even get that far in the league. Doesn't get a look in for Ireland either, and only 35.

Contract up next June, maybe a loan with buy clause if we go up.
