Says Liam Roberts having medical today

He'll be 2nd choice, so that rules Ben Foster out ?

I'd be a little surprised if he's "only" coming in as backup.

Coming off the back of a successful season at League 2, would think League 1 teams would have him as a starter versus backup for a Champo side?

Wilder likely still has some contacts at Northampton so might have helped to grease the wheels?

So.. we get to see this seasons keeper kits by the end of the week?

It'll be a big step up for him, but no doubt he'll get a chance in the cups and through injuries etc. He's got a lot of potential and 27 is still relatively young for a keeper. I like the idea of someone like him as number 2 rather than someone who has sat on the bench for years picking up their wages.

Roberts to battle it out with Daniels for the number one shirt?

I was pretty convinced Daniels would be staying - he looked a good backup last season.

Although with this news I'm not too sure. Must be bringing in a hell of a #1 if there's more to come!
What would you say constitutes a good back up??

When he played he wasn't up to the standard, let in some soft goals and was unable to play the style the management wants.

Dean Henderson - supposedly going on loan to Forrest
Tom Heaton - being kept by man utd if Henderson leaves?
Ben Foster - 26 appearances for Watford last season.. solid signing with room for a number 2 to challenge
Karl Darlow - Mentioned but doesnt sound like it's happening
Daniel Iverson - returning to Preson with Sunderland reportedly interested..
Toby Savin - one for the future
Zander Clark - guessing he would have been a number 2

Fair point about style of play. Don't remember too many soft goals though.

Salary would probably be my main concern with a backup keeper at the moment. There's a strong chance they may never play next season (or for the club at all).

Does the emergency loan thing still exist for keepers? If so, even less requirement to have an overqualified backup.

He's at least coming on the back of a 40 odd game season and GK of the year in league 1. I've read nothing but positive stuff from Northampton fans (who actually know what he's like).

They seem a bit surprised he's not likely to be No1.

It's already a step up from the reviews of Lumley. We had qpr fans on here thinking we were mad 😂

League Two.

But I'm happy with this as a back up.
Better than our usual method of picking the keepers that have good games against us when down to 10 men but are regularly dropped by their club.
