Not sure if you saw, but one of Liverpool's fans on twitter, who has a decent size following, and receives plenty of inside info, called out Ornstein on this and firmly put him in his place.

Ornstein even replied to him and acknowledged it and then tried to back peddle.

I also thought it was interesting that the Athletic’s Liverpool writer was on the podcast and made no mention of ‘whispers,’ and talked of the bombshell of the announcement. It was the same with Andy Hunter on the Guardian.

It just fed into what I’ve thought about the Athletic for ages, in that it’s a large group of quite self-important men who would’ve been working in the city 20 years ago using long words and stats to try and sound clever. Some of their transfer podcasts are painful. So painful that I find it hard not to listen.

He should definitely be considered imo, his Wolves side play some really attractive football and he's clearly a very good coach.

Liverpool will no doubt see him as below them though, Geordie levels of delusion at that club - I'd heard a post-resurrection Christ was being considered but they're looking for a bigger name.

I wouldn't go that far, I mean they've won quite a lot of top trophies since the barcodes won a proper trophy back in 1955. EDIT: just counted liverpool have won 45 major trophies since newcastle last won one.

There’s a lot of big jobs opening up this summer and not quite enough managers to go around.

Barca, Bayern, Liverpool, Germany, probably Man United and Chelsea, possibly England too.

The three managers with all the hype are Amorim, Xabi Alonso and De Zerbi. Alonso’s not moving. There also isn’t many Ancelottis around atm, high profile experienced safe pair of hands managers who jump around the elite clubs. Big clubs seem a bit burnt by that type, the likes of Conte aren’t getting the Liverpool job.

I think Gary O’Neil’s done a fantastic job everywhere he’s been, I think Liverpool would be too big for him… but they’ve got to hire someone? And with all those vacancies it’s a great summer to be a promising young manager.
