I wonder what that does to Liverpool this season? Lame duck managers have fared badly in the past.
I was inclined to like the guy when he came here, and in a lot of ways, I still do. He's very enthusiastic and charismatic a lot of the time.
Where I lost a lot of respect for him was his crocodile tears about the risk to players health and well being through playing too many games. He, more than anyone else, puts greater physical demand on his players bodies, and was happy to embrace the title "heavy metal football", meaning the intensity with which his teams play.
Whether he hadn't thought it through or not, I don't know. But it looks like hypocrisy to me: players were getting injured because of "heavy metal" intensity, not the number of games they were asked to play. As such, his "concern" for players looked like a desire to change competitions to suit his tactics and style of play. Maybe better to pick tactics that fit competitions, rather than demand competition changes to suit your style?
