January window?

Would you like us to make any signings in January?
I really like Borges and think he’s very solid, but I wonder with the way we play whether an attacking left back would be a good signing?
I’m not going to suggest the obvious candidate but also I wouldn’t say no…..
Does it rhyme with piles ?

Just think if we lose a player.. whose loss would affect us the most. We should reinforce there.

I think we’ll see Engel come back and that Left back spot starts to look a little better.

Centre back is a bit of a worry for me with RVDB getting injured. Right back is still a concern.

Jack Sparkes from Peterborough
Matty Pollock CH
Xavier Simons DM
Louie Barry LW
Thelo Aasgard no10
Mason Bairstow RW
Mothersille LW & CF and Poku RW & CF are 2 worth considering from Pufc. Matt Smith and Hector Kyprianou DM.
Milan van Ewijk is the best RB I have seen this season but I doubt they would sell to us and would cost £6m + so
Calvin Ramsay on loan from LFC would suffice.
Alex Cochrane Birmingham LB is also decent and I would take Luke Thomas or Giles

That is the crux of the matter really Newy there's positions we'd struggle with an injury, where we technically have more than adequate cover.

Our squad is too big, we would struggle to register many more you'd think.

These have barely or not featured at all this season.....

-------------------------Glover-----------------------

Smith-----------Fry-----------Lenihan------Bangura

------------------Barlaser---McCabe-------------

--Forss----------------Gilbert-------------Silvera

------------------------Coburn-----------------------

Which is pretty crazy really.

So for me, I'd only like to sign players that actively improve the first XI, or who would step in to the first XI next season to replace players coming to the end of their time / career (Howson & Smith, possibly Ayling, Lenihan won't have had a competitive minute for 18 months by then so that might be a decision he/we need to make at some point. I'd have said Dijksteel at the start of the season but I think he's done well and is probably alright for squad rotation in the champo).

So as you say, where do we strengthen? I think throughout the squad there is a lack of athleticism and power which never hurts to have as an option. I think we can probably do better at both fullback positions, maybe at CM/DMC too. An upgrade or replacement for Howson and/or Barlaser, possibly a replacement for Hackney if he attracts bids?

But I think we should be pushing to keep the crown jewels and trim a lot of the fat from the squad to get one or two first team starters in.

Giles may be available. Recently benched. Bet that daft chairman wishes he'd taken the money in the summer now rather than try and squeeze out more.

How far off is Bangura? Might not need a left back even.

First season I can remember where I wouldn't be bothered if we signed no-one.

Think it'll be a window where we'll obviously have an eye on a few because you should always be looking to improve and sometimes you have to move for a player on your list because they're available at that particular time.

But dont think we'll be particularly bothered if not.

A goal scorer always seems to be on our list doesn’t it ? Let’s hope we don’t get any one upsetting our squad will be our key challenge , we can’t be selling someone every window mid season.
I think wel be sbap someone on a cheap deal if available that could potentially be on a free in the summer , weather there needed for a first team straight away may not matter .

Harry Amass is meant to be a really highly left back at Man utd who would benefit from game time,he'd be a quality addition

I was keen on him this summer but I think he wouldn't have time to find his feet for just half a season. Left back is still a problem and I think if we persist with Ayling he'll eventually get found out. Borges has been so-so but he is still relatively new so I can't see us going for yet another LB unless Engel shows no signs of returning to the team. On the other side, Dijksteel has been like a new signing(tm) this season so the pressure is off for a new RB.

I reckon our one irreplaceable player right now is Morris. It feels like this may be a season too far for Howson as a regular starter and he takes a long time to get match sharp these days. Without Morris we have no defensive stability in the side. I would push to get Tylor Morton on loan. Knows the league, like Morris he has defensive nous but he's not just defensive so he can also rotate with Hackney when needed.

Doak's not irreplaceable but he is massively better than his replacement (Jones) and who knows if and when Forss will ever get back on the pitch.

Azaz has been proving detractors (like me) wrong. I had been thinking Cesare Casadei at Chelsea as an upgrade on him as he can play attacking midfield or deeper.

I suppose it will depend on where we are at Christmas time. If we're somewhere near the top 2, maybe we go for a splashy upgrade on someone. Ironically, McGree might be most replaceable due to how difficult it is to keep him fit.
