January window?

That is the crux of the matter really Newy there's positions we'd struggle with an injury, where we technically have more than adequate cover.

Our squad is too big, we would struggle to register many more you'd think.

These have barely or not featured at all this season.....

-------------------------Glover-----------------------

Smith-----------Fry-----------Lenihan------Bangura

------------------Barlaser---McCabe-------------

--Forss----------------Gilbert-------------Silvera

------------------------Coburn-----------------------

Which is pretty crazy really.

So for me, I'd only like to sign players that actively improve the first XI, or who would step in to the first XI next season to replace players coming to the end of their time / career (Howson & Smith, possibly Ayling, Lenihan won't have had a competitive minute for 18 months by then so that might be a decision he/we need to make at some point. I'd have said Dijksteel at the start of the season but I think he's done well and is probably alright for squad rotation in the champo).

So as you say, where do we strengthen? I think throughout the squad there is a lack of athleticism and power which never hurts to have as an option. I think we can probably do better at both fullback positions, maybe at CM/DMC too. An upgrade or replacement for Howson and/or Barlaser, possibly a replacement for Hackney if he attracts bids?

But I think we should be pushing to keep the crown jewels and trim a lot of the fat from the squad to get one or two first team starters in.
Most of that team could be shipped out without affecting the team performance.

We might have a a few moving out on loan.

Glover - could go out on loan
Smith - still injured I think
Fry - on his way back
Lenihan - still injured I think
Bangura - still injured I think
Barlaser - important squad player
McCabe - U21
Forss - hopefully he returns
Gilbert - could go out on loan?
Silvera - out on loan
Coburn - out on loan

do U21 loan players count towards the 25?

Loans do count for registration, ours don't.

If they're not good enough, we may as well cut our losses? Glover will never be a number 1 for us. Coburn isn't ever going to be a starting striker for how we play while Carrick is here I feel. Gilbert and Barlaser are worth keeping for rotation, as are Engel and Dijksteel probably. Bangura could probably do a good job rotating with McGree TBH.

But nobody in that XI is a starter for a team looking at an outside push for the autos.

At the moment

Dieng, Brynn, Glover
Ayling, Dijsksteel, Smith
Edmundson, Fry, Rav
Clarke, Lenihan
Borges, Engel, Bangura, McCormick?
Hackney, Barlaser
Morris, Howson
Doak, Jones, Forss?
Azaz, Gilbert?
McGree, Burgzorg, Hamilton
Latte Lath, Conway

Out of those, Glover is not good enough, Brynn is untested at this level. Rav will presumably be back around February. Engel may be back at some point. Howson may struggle for match sharpness. Forss who knows. McGree struggles to stay fit. Gilbert will presumably be back soon but Carrick doesn't seem to rate him. Carrick is very reluctant to play academy players so not expecting to see McCormick or any academy player. Hamilton is struggling to adapt to senior football. Fry may or may not stay fit. Clarke is struggling to recapture last season's form but presumably will do. No sign of Lenihan. Jones seems to have completely lost it at the moment but hopefully he can get his head right.

Last Winter, it appears that Morris, Conway and Burgzorg were all active targets and when we lost Rogers we decided to wait until the summer to land them rather than pick someone lower down our list. Seems highly likely that there are 2-3 on our active list right now but no hints as to who.

I don’t think we’ll look to rock the boat too much as far as outgoings are concerned unless a crazy bid comes in for somebody which we can’t refuse. Perhaps one or two fringe players who don’t get a look in.

Likewise, I don’t see us trying to bring too many in. Left back would be an obvious area depending on Engel situation.

I could only see us trying to bring in an exceptional player with experience. A Gaston Ramirez type maybe, who would be a match winner. Those players don’t come round every day of the week though, certainly not in January. Probably a low probability of that type of deal happening.

I think we just need a really good winger tbh as worry if doak gets injured what we gonna do as he's the difference at the moment.

I don't think we should be signing anybody without outgoings.

I'd offer Dijksteel a new contract on his performances so far this season, but if he won't sign one then right back is an obvious position that needs sorting long term as Smith surely don't be offered a new contract in the summer, so we'd only half Ayling with a year left on his contract.

Loan out Hamilton and bring in a midfielder.

Dijksteel deserves a new contract imo

We normally bring in a couple of players to mix it up a bit.. we’ve been really good the past few years in the January window.

20/21
Fisher, Watmore
L Bolasie, Kebano

21/22
McGree, Taylor
L Connolly, Balogun

22/23
Barlaser
L Ramsey, Archer

23/24
Azaz
L Thomas, Ayling

24/25
Two loans.. and maybe one permo?
we’ve been quite decent with loans for players that were already at another championship club.

I’ve mentioned Callum Doyle before currently on loan at Norwich for this reason.
Extra points for being a Man City player., he can play centre back and left back. (not forgetting the iconic surname)

Tamás Nikitscher has been mentioned.. far too random not to be taken as a stone cold nailed on guaranteed permanent transfer. Midfielders have been popular for the past three seasons.. and at 6’3.. he’s a tall.. we haven’t really replaced Crooks have we?

The final made up predicted maybe nailed on loan.. big names.. big hitters.. Nikitscher, Doyle and one other? Another striker? Seems to be a common way to go.. a long time target? Big Willy Lanks?

2 or 3 spots to free up.. Glover to go out on loan? Gilbert maybe? Forss?

Ryan Giles is the name that will forever be on social media lips.. Chuba Akpom is the dream.. Mr Hollywood. Championship cheat code! Big name big ballers..

Boro DNA?

Doyle, Nikitscher & LAnkshear

There will be big changes this summer so we need to start planning.

If we go up there are players that just won’t cut it in the prem that need moving on

If we stay down there are players who need improving or need end of contract or in demand

Either way I’d be amazed to see these players here next year glover, Dijksteel, Lenihan, Engel, Clarke, Barlaser, Howson, Forss, Bergzorg, Silvera, jones

Plenty of space then for incomings. So we should be looking to maybe move and improve one or two now.

I think, if we don't get promoted then there is a huge turnover.
Out (moving up). Latte Lath, Hackney, Rav (maybe not depending on how he returns from injury), Dieng & McGree (if they get an offer from a top tier league)
Out (moving down/sideways/out of contract). Lenihan, Engel, Howson, Forss, Silvera, Smith, Glover
Could stay or go depending on bids. Barlaser, Clarke, Dijksteel (may get a new deal offer), Fry, Gilbert, Coburn
I think we will aim to keep Jones on the basis that his current dip in form is temporary.
Fighting to hang onto. Morris, Conway, Azaz,
Re-signing: The Fridge

Looking at a lot of churn if we don't get promoted.
[Dieng], Brynn
Ayling, [Dijksteel]
[Rav], Edmundson, [Fry]
[Clarke]
Borges, [Engel/Bangura]
[Barlaser]
Morris
Jones
Azaz, [Gilbert]
[McGree], Burgzorg
Latte Lath, [Coburn]
That looks like an almost total rebuild.

There will be interest in Morris, Conway and Azaz but if we don’t go up they won’t have done enough to get the bids necessary, especially if we have sold lath and Hackney. We will have a big turnover but plenty of cash. McGree has signed a new long term deal I don’t see him going and I’d be surprised if Dieng was sold unless he has a stinker of a second half to the season. But if sold those in brackets we’d probably bring in 25m if we sold lath and Hackney you can add another 40m.

Well that’s a must as we would have to deregister a player to register a new one
Did we have one space left or did Doak use that up?

(I've checked!)

Bangura & Hoppe weren't registered, may as well sack Lenihan and Smith off there too?

I can't see us using Smith, Lenihan or Glover the way things are looking, although I suppose the extra keeper makes sense rather than relying on a youth.
