I like Connolly.

Connoly isn't bad, he's not played regular football for a long time, I dont see a goalscorer in there but I do see a decent player, I think if we had Balogun for another year he would turn out to be very good. For me Coburn and Balogun are the main men next year with Watmore and one other as Impact men to run a tired faience into the ground late on, I wouldn't be too disappointed if that "other" was Connoly.

He does try his best and there is obviously a quality there but he wont pass if theres even half a chance of a shot on, that is obviously his desperation to get a goal but I personally wouldnt want him back next year. The money he would cost I would rather get someone in who actually scores goals

I wouldn't be shocked at all to see us sign him permanently in the summer (particularly if we don't go up).

We need 3 strikers bringing in, I expect he'd be pretty cheap given his scoring record (not sure how long he has on his contract and wages might be an issue mind) he can play the system, Wilder likes him and he has potential.

Can't see him getting a game for Brighton off the back of this loan spell, they'd probably be happy to offload, he's 23 next season.

Obviously nothing is certain in football but at every other level of the game he has been a goalscorer which suggests he can finish. He's going through a bad spell and you can see he's frustrated (which obviously doesn't help) but he has that ability, the question mark is whether he can unlock it and do it at a higher level. I don't think he needs a lucky goal, he needs a well taken one to get his confidence going.

If his attitude is right and there's no suggestion with us that it isn't, he could be a fairly astute acquisition. Wouldn't be first striker to suddenly click.

It's a peculiar attitude from me given I actually think he's been decent in most games whilst lacking a bit of a goal threat, but I wouldn't have him back next season.

He's got too many doubters in the fanbase and it's already creating a bit of discord.
I can't see that changing unless he went on a run of scoring till the end of the season, which might change minds.
Sporar went from the best striker since Hasselbaink to surplus to requirements amongst many, I'm sure Connolly could go from zero to hero with 5-6 goals in 8.

Sadly, I don't really think he will.

people are too eager to make snap judgements. I waited on Sporar, didn't jump on the bandwagon, 6 months in, he isn't good enough. Connelly, 11 games in, wasn't match fit to start with, not quite ready to write him off as a non-goalscorer just yet

Not sure I'd want to base our transfer policy on what the boo boys or idiots on social media think. Is he really that divisive?

I don't think he needs to score that many to win people over. If his performances continue to be good and he's helping us win matches that'll be enough for most fans who actually go to games. Think we're already seeing it in fact. Some goals wouldn't hurt though obviously.

There'll always be idiots on social media out to get him because of the profile he has in social media land. He can easily make that go away though if it really bothers him.

Utter rubbish. Not everyone who criticises him gives a flying **** about his social media nonsense.

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. 6 months in and Sporar isn't good enough?
He was playing well, scoring goals and we were in the play off spots. Then he got Covid badly, the loanees came in and he has barely played.
Some get accused of looking for reasons to knock him. There are some who look to praise him for absolute basics and make excuse after excuse for a pitiful goals return.
The way Connolly will stop criticism is by putting the ball (directly) into the net every now and again.

Duncan Watmore can do all of the things that Connolly can do but he can also play football. The only thing Watmore can't do is 90mins. I would be extremely disappointed if we signed Connolly again next season. There must be plenty of players that can be a nuisance and play football like Watmore that would be a huge improvement on just being a nuisance.

I've been wrong about players in the past plenty of times and he might suddenly discover some ability from somewhere and start scoring and convince me otherwise but I'm not hopeful. I'll still support him when he plays but I won't champion him in any way if his only skillset is nuisance. At the moment we are winning with him, not because of him.

I don't think any of our current strikers are good enough. Watmore is a great to player to have to come off the bench and if he was able to play 90mins every week at the same intensity would be 1st choice. Coburn is young but has potential. Balogun looks to have the ability but is still adjusting to playing against men instead of kids. Sporar I don't think suits the Championship but has occasional good moments. I would hope for 2 new strikers next season with Watmore and Coburn continuing as deputies/subs. I'd possibly take Balogun back because I think he will go on to be a top level player but I wouldn't take Sporar or Connolly back.

Wind your neck in. Did I say everyone who criticises him cares about his social media stuff? No I didn't.

But he gets a lot of flack for it and "some" (not all) have had it in for him since day 1 because of it.

Exactly. Oversize head comment shows that people have it in for him. He’s doing a good job for us and contributing to our good results. Not sure how anyone can’t see that. He was a nuisance on Saturday and crowd gave him the reception he deserved as he was withdrawn.

Hopefully it does suddenly click for him and he can contribute a bit more than just being busy.

I did smile at the comments earlier in the thread defending him as a good player, just we shouldn't expect goals from him and he shouldn't have the ball played to him... 🤣 But I sort of see what they were meaning by it.

I wouldn't have him back next season. I do think the club can find better out there somewhere. I said a similar thing on another thread (re: Lumley) but I just can't see AC grabbing a goal on a day when the rest of the team don't play well and pinching us a result we don't really deserve. While he's in the side the midfield need to do a great job creating chances each and every match and it still sometimes won't be enough even if they do.

Funny the same people saying give connolly more time are the same fans jumping on the backs of sporar when he has suffered badly with covid, excuses for one and not the other. If the transfer and wages were the same i would have Sporar every day of the week over Connolly.

One poster has mentioned something irrelevant about his head. One.

He gets flack from a lot of people for not scoring goals.
Nobody has "got it in for him". Score goals and he will get support.

Wayne Rooney type player. Has to work hard as a striker due to his size, up against big Championsip defenders. Makes good runs but needs to pass to team mates who are in a better position, rather than try impossible shots. At his age and with his hunger, he will only improve. (y)
Which attributes are similar to Rooney? He’s absolutely nothing like him!

Watmore started tonight because Jones wasn't there. We needed someone to run the channel.

Watmore played well and worked hard, why do we always have to moan and whine. It was a very good performance and we were unlucky.
Not moaning and whining. Just the first time I think this manager got his selection wrong. An opinion. Just like the heaps of praise I've given since he arrived.

I'm not having a dig, I missed the 1st half but was genuinely asking a question, I don't see them week in week out so I wanted other people's opinions.
