I dont understand the vitriol towards Cattermole.

Don't get me wrong as I'm not saying for one minute that I want him to get the job but some of the remarks made against him are awful.
A local lad who made it into the first team from the academy then sold against his will when he had made it into the first team. He is a Boro fan and admitted that it was his dream to play for his hometown club.
Now making strides through coaching and ultimately into management and he is getting pelters because he has been linked to the job.
It just doesn't make sense to me. Has he ever slagged the club or the town or the supporters off?

I think that’s why he wanted to start off in the Dutch league. His reputation locally is not very good at all.. even though it was years ago.

For me, it's nothing personal with Cattermole. I'd feel equally as underwhelmed if George Friend was being heavily linked with the job.

I'm not against the idea of a novice being given a chance but it needs to be somebody who has had some experience of being a number two at least.

No, I think most fans were a little disappointed that we didn’t go for a big name with Woodgate but he was generally backed and supported.

Cattermole is getting us both barrels from all quarters straight from the off at the mere mention!!! Idiotic, laughable decision.. folks on about being finished with football, handing in their season tickets. The reaction is much, much worse.

I think he’ll make a decent coach.. worth a chance tbf

Not from personal experience Newy. He was an absolute tool with me and a good mate in the Dickens one night. It could have ended badly and wouldn't you know it that less than a month later he got his jaw broke in the town.

Not even the U21s, the U18s.

If he was coming on the back of years of senior coaching experience, I could possibly get on board.

Swansea went for Garry Monk at the same age. Gerrard had less experience before he took on the Rangers job.. even less with Lampard, Rooney..

When the chips were down Cattermole was the go to guy. Our youngest ever captain and a phenomenal record of keeping the likes of Wigan and Sunderland in the premier league.

He could genuinely be the outstanding candidate! He ticks all of the boxes for what we actually need right now!

Because it was a disaster with Woodgate, and now they're potentially trying to do it again with someone with even less experience. People have more than the right to be annoyed by this link.
