I dont understand the vitriol towards Cattermole.

Another way of looking at it - would anybody else whose only coaching credentials was working well with the under 18's be considered for the job, if they weren't a former player and Boro lad?

I bet many Boro fans wouldn't have been even able to tell you who the head coach of the under 18's was in seasons gone by.
Steven Gerrard was for Rangers

The incredulity is that Gibson would consider it now.

Cattermole simply does not have the coaching experience, or management experience to even be remotely considered.

Southgate was a loss to us as player for at least one, probably two seasons. He was wasted in a ridiculous hunch by Gibson.
Agnew was another ridiculous hunch by Gibson.
Woodgate yet another.
Cattermole would simply be that all over again. He may end up being a damned good coach and then manager, but ffs only an ego like Gibson would say his time is now.

As a player when he first burst into the scene he was dynamite, really like him. Left because the club couldn’t manage him, a kid ffs.
We need someone with a bit of gravitas and presence. I’m afraid cattermole lacks both. Nothing against him mind.
Woodgate always sounded as thick as mince, I may of course be wrong but these things count when it comes to managing others men.

barred from every pub in stockton for numerous incidents, as a player. Maybe hes grown up, but 10 years ago he was renowned for acting the big I am and absolute knob around town.

The problem in a nutshell

Was he really barred from every pub in Stockton?
I’ll give you the answer - No

He did have a bad night out in Yarm which was well documented.
He was totally ashamed of it when he came to his senses (next day)

He was young and had money and would never claim to be the brightest lad in the world.
Some people on here must have been monks from 16 - 25

No, just from a part of the world where people would have knocked all your teeth out for being a knob in the pub.

I think he was banned from every pub.. didn’t he have one of those asbos?

think in most cases its envy, yes envy,by a local lad doing well for himself, some on here find it hard to accept, probs same people willing woodgate to fail when he was here

I'm pretty sure he did. It's the internet.
Woodgate gots loads of criticism (I was one of the critics) and quite a lot of nasty stuff was said. I didn't want him in charge full stop for non footballing reasons.

in both cases Cattermole and Woodgate are/were not experienced enough.

Carrick is more experienced than Cattermole is now and Woodgate was at the time, but is still pretty inexperienced. The difference would really be if he brought Phelan. That's hugely different.

That’s probably the point they’re negotiating, I’d imagine Carrick and his crew won’t be cheap.

The bit that doesnt add up in this rumour is why give the job now to Percovic when they could have made Cattermole lead guy and bought themselves some time faux-interviewing candidates whilst judging Cattermoles performances and fan reaction.
If they appoint him then it has to work otherwise the club and the fans will be further apart and poor Lee will be fully retired

He was barred from every licensed outlet in Yarm 1finny.

It does happen but personally l prefer for a potential manager to have their coaching badges and to have had some experience working as a number two.
It happens quite a lot, I think Cattermole has his badges.. did them at VVV-Venlo I think.

He apparently has a good reputation within the club and the u18s respct him a lot. I would imagine coaching our precious first team squad is a lot different though and I doubt he has the experience to manage a first team game yet. I cant see it happening at all yet but in a couple of years, promotion to first team coach, gain more experience then why not? We are still at the beginning of the change and once this has settled and we know how the club runs it will probably benefit us to promote from within.

I’ve wasted far too much energy in the last few weeks harping on about Wilder going, then Edwards, Carrick and now Cattermole coming in. I can’t control any of it, and I’m getting to the point where I’m past caring. Whoever comes in has a big job, but once they are appointed most will get behind them and give them a chance.

Complete pizz head - I vividly remember his photo on pub watch in Stockton bars! . No discipline, no self control , everything you don’t want in a manager. Leopards don’t change their spots. We have moved on since the days of carrying Robson out of Yarm bars thanks. We need a professional manager.
