I don’t like Argentina

I think despite Argentina you have to grudgingly acknowledge that Messi is up there with the all time greats.

His close control is from another world.
As was that deliberate handball which for some strange reason didn’t warrant a yellow in a game teeming with yellows.

Unlike Brazil that have largely followed the beautiful game philosophy ( apart from the mid to late 70s) when it comes to representing their nation, Argentina have always had a more salubrious approach.

Argentine culture Is that of the fight of the street of the immigrant of the bario, of dance of passion look at the tango they have a more rounded view of of what is and isn’t acceptable in order to win.

They aren’t really bothered about reputation if they can win the prize.

  1. Viveza criolla is a more general term for South American people, but more than anything Argentines and Uruguayans, with a somewhat different meaning. It literally means "Creole wit" or "the wit/cunning of natives", and in essence, it means that us Argentines/Uruguayans are always trying to be one step ahead and take advantage of anyone or any situation to put things on our favor. Argentine Maradona's hand goal in the 1986 World Cup. Also, to Argentines and Uruguayans being infamous for their skill at simulating fouls and making European referees buy it.

Jonathon Wilson’s excellent book angels with dirty faces explores this psyche more but it’s basically at its heart “win at all costs”. By fair means or foul.

I can’t see Morocco beating Portugal and I can see them being out by the time we all leave the riverside.
You'd have to have Portugal installed as favourites.

However it could be a re-run of the Euro 2004 final, substituting Greece for Morocco with the same strategy employed by both. Complete with Ronaldo blubbing his eyes out at the end, even if his contribution is likely to be a good deal less than it was over 18 years ago.

Be funny if Morocco unveil Rehagel sat on the bench.
