I don’t like Argentina

Pretty sure that was two different players. The foul got a yellow. Not sure about the kick into the dugout but with Jonathan Pearce as commentator you rarely know what's actually going on.
No you don’t due to really poor commentary but the pundits in the studio even said it was the same player.

I'll stand corrected. Just found a snippet of video from an overhead angle (from The Sun so I'm not linking it) and it is the same player (Paredes #5).

Watching it last night it looked like the other guy running across had hit it but from the overhead it looks like they must have shown it from different camera angles (at least that's what my brain remembers).

Their fans though - best in the world? The numbers, the passion, the noise ( that song that is apparently about Maradonna and his parents in heaven looking down on Lionel -what?!)
Magnificent.
I know, it seems to be (but maybe it really isn't) that it's usually the England fans that travel in the greatest numbers to these tournaments. Is it the Messi factor with it being his last world cup that has caused this vast number to travel to Qatar?

There are definitely thousands of Argentine fans there, but many of the fans in the stadium will be from countries other than Argentina.

You get a lot of glory supporters for Argentina from places like Bangladesh.

I've spent a little time in Buenos Aires on business. I found the Argentines open, welcoming and very friendly. Everyone I met was obsessed with football and knew more about the Premier League than I did.
I was also lucky enough to be taken to a couple of Boca games and the atmosphere was electric, well beyond the passion I have seen here. Perhaps this emotion translates to actions that we would consider unethical on the football pitch. Because we would never cheat or try to fool the ref, would we?

I think there is a difference between conning referees and the dark arts of football and the Argentinians have the dark arts down to a tee.

Edit: I meant to add that you find the vast majority of people are welcoming and willing to help.

Masters of the dark arts, along with Uruguay. Dunno what it is about that part of South America but they’re built different.

I always use the Alf Ramsey line “animals” when trying to describe them to non-football watchers 😁 Unbelievable passion, absolute b***ds.

Last night was class, love it when a World Cup match descends into chaos and rancour. There’s always one. Brought back memories of Portugal having loads of people sent off or the classic Germany-Holland Rudi Voller, so funny.

Yep every World Cup needs a night like last night, where it just descends into chaos, controversy, amazing comebacks, it could have been a classic football match as well if they both kept at it into extra time, it still be remembered because of the talking points, biased refs, poor sportsmanship by both teams, Croatia will be making an issue about Messi still being able to play against them, when he should be suspended etc, I hate the location but love the World cup and this is unfortunately what FIFA were waiting for the football to take over from their corrupt decisions.

I know it sounds bad , but I don’t like South American teams in general . Southern Europeans can be bad for it too

They just spend a large portion of the time playing s***y cheating tactics trying to get others sent off , and act like **** houses themselves that would justify them getting sent off as well. Kicking the ball directly at the oppositions managerial area should have been an auto send off

Columbia tried the same **** housery with us , granted they’re more Central American

I don't like cheats and to be honest I don't like narrow minded or people with preconceived ideas about others.
Then there's football fans (of almost all denominations). I don't like football fans 😆😆😆

I'm very much part of the "win at all costs mentality". Zero honour in sport, only the result that matters. Think it's what endears me to this Argentina side. Definitely got under the skin of the Dutch.

We could have taken a leaf out of their book last night too. There is a clear lack of gamesmanship and no edge to our team. Sure we could have identified a couple of weak links in their team and effectively bullied them all game.

No Columbia is in South America
