How much alcohol do you consume?

I’ve cut right down on my alcohol intake but I still probably drink too much!
I always drank heavily during early teens and 20s etc…I’m in my early 40s now and it can’t be good to continue to do it.

Following on from another thread about how it has changed peoples lives by quitting…what did you do to replace the void? I can‘t imagine I’ll ever quit, but should really cut down more than I already have I guess.

For context it’s lager/beer for me. I could easily have 10-12 cans/bottles on a night just sat in the house.

Currently none. Had a break a couple of months ago, not bothered at the minute about having one. On holiday in a couple of weeks so will have a few drinks then, but it's certainly been the case the older I get the less I'm bothered about drinking.

I find that I drink very little these days. Last weekend I had a couple of rums on Friday night and a bottle of beer on Sunday. The rest of the week was dry. That said this weekend I'm at Bearded Theory Festival and I have just loaded the car with eight cans, two bottles of rum two cans of pre-mixed G&T and I expect to visit the bars too...

Seriously cutting down, if you can do it, will help your general health. If you can't you may need help and have to stop completely.

It initially spiked during lockdown, but then dwindled to far less than before.

4-6 units over the weekend these days.

Some times I go for weeks without touching a drop. I do like a cold can at home from time to time - literally just one if I am having a curry or steak.

Work nights out are the times when I drink a fair bit. They are starting up again now that things are back to normal, but I find that I have to really exert self control to switch to soft drinks towards the end of the evening, which makes me feel less bad but quite smug in the mornings. Unlike when i was younger, a heavy night out takes me days to get over these days, and it really is not worth it for those couple of extra end of night drinks.

Way too much. often 5 nights a week at the moment, although a couple of them might be 2 glasses of wine in front of the TV. Loads on a weekend though, Fri, Sat and often Sunday. Need to cut down if I'm honest.

Almost none for about 2-3 years. I had 4 pints of Guiness over a day when I was at a wedding in Ireland. and that's been all. Didn't make me feel drunk or ill, but I didn't like it as much as I used to. I explain it as "I've lost the taste". Heaven knows if it'll ever return. Can't say I miss it. I'm going to a leaving party of a very good friend tonights so beer will be freely flowing, but not in my direction.

During the pandemic lockdown I started having a drink before evening meal , usually G&T, sometimes a large dry sherry. Often a couple of glasses with a meal. Always a pint or two after playing golf, and a can after dong any diy. And since the free pint, I need a drink before watching football, any football. And if Boro lose I have a drink to drown my sorrows, and if we win to celebrate. So probably in line with Chief Medical Officer guidance (not).

During the football season only when there's a Boro match on and I'm watching it in the pub, I could have 7/8 pints during the day.

I never drink in the house and my night out days are dwindling away. Not too bothered about that though as the last few times I've been out in Middlesbrough there's been chew on every corner and never really enjoy it.

Stopping drinking is an interesting process. When you're still drinking it feels impossible that social events etc would ever be possible without booze, but in some cases they're actually much better. This surprised me. When I quit I assumed I'd enjoy that sort of thing less.

Can't remember the last time I properly danced though. Definitely need booze for that :)
