None.

I believe I’m now what they call caffeine naive!

Meaning the slightest bit of caffeine gives me insomnia and sometimes heart palpitations. Mad can’t even have a painkiller or glass of coke.

I'm a zero - can't stand the stuff, teas however I like strong, Ringtons and when working 4 a day 3 of which were usually in the morning and one with lunch 13:00-14:00, after that no more or it affected my sleep

Now I'm retired - gawd knows till a few weeks pass

I used to drink about 10 Americanos a day but for the last 10 years only have a double espresso in the morning and then no more. It works for me.

2 although I would drink it all day if I could

How are people sleeping after 5/6 cups?
I think caffeine is something some people just have a tolerance for or they don't. I drink coffee just because I love the taste. I don't need coffee to wake me up in the morning and I can drink coffee at night and then go to sleep.

If I'm in the office I hate not having a coffee so I have a Nespresso when I first get there then a couple of instants before lunch. After lunch I'll have another Nespresso and then another couple of instants. Ok an evening I don't drink coffee but I do drink tea instead, usually 1 or 2 cups and usually a can of coke zero with my meal. When I'm working from home I have less coffee but better coffee because I have an espresso machine and french press or pour over (and sometimes instant). I think the more faff means I make fewer and I feel like I can have actual breaks without having to go make a coffee at home.

It's probably a lot but I don't have an addiction and I don't notice when I don't have one. I can go days without and I don't feel any effects. I've never had trouble sleeping.

I really like coffee, but I limit myself to one cup (with an occasional refill) in the morning. It has to be filter or cafetière or French press; I don’t like instant so will usually have tea if I’m offered instant.

However, if it’s a special occasion (say Christmas and there’s some cake or a scone going like when I went to Norman Conquest’s house to drop his card off) then I’ll break my rule and drink an afternoon coffee. Otherwise, I drink tea or water, and always decaff tea after 4pm.

2 cups usually, won’t drink a caffeinated drink after 1pm now.

Ended up with AFib a few years ago, after much trial and error I think poor sleep is a huge trigger for me, since I got that right I haven’t been in AFib for close to 18 months now. Even if you can still go to sleep the caffeine in your system will prevent you from having quality sleep.

I used to drink ungodly amounts of crap instant coffee all through the day but I have a proper espresso machine and grinder now so I can really enjoy my 2 cups in the morning/early afternoon.

I have 2-3 a day.

I actually work 4 12hr night shifts a week. Yet don't need the caffeine to stay awake. The work is quite physical and on the move so don't really get tired.

That said some of lads can easily have 6-8 during that period. Although that's not the 'worst' of it. We have a few younger lads who can easily drink 4+ cans of Monster per shift. Absolute madness. You here then say 'I need an energy drink'. Fecking 'energy' 😂

As I’m allergic to tea (bizarre, I know), I drink my fair share of coffee. I never drink instant, but mainly from our De Longhi bean to cup machine. We love trying beans from all reaches of the world, and at the moment are very much into a Japanese bean called Fuji Mountain which is very tasty.

This is a good point. I would often get 8 hours sleep but still feel knackered next day.

Similar to when I’ve had a skinful 🍺
Yup. Both harm the amount of REM sleep you get even if alcohol will make you tired and sleepy the quality of sleep will be poor.

Unfortunately due to it not agreeing with my acid reflux problem I limit myself to one cup of decaffeinated per week, usually in a coffee shop,as I used to really like 3 or 4 cups per day.
Though after I've made the wife a cup I'll have a teaspoon after I've stirred it.

I had to quit coffee due to it playing havoc with my IBS and Hernia (acid reflux).

Until I tried to quit I didn't realise how addicted I was.

Literally shaking and having massive headaches. Just shows what a powerful drug it is.

After 5 days not only was my stomach in a better way than for years, but also much better sleep, mental health and my skin looks 5 years younger.

This thread has made me realise that even though I've cut down from about 5 or 6 cups a day to only one a day/two on Saturday (I drink water instead of coffee at work) I haven't noticed a difference :(
