How concerned are you about climate change?

Yes, I'm concerned
Car is now fully electric from a PHEV
My partner sold hers - we now have just one between us and we get by
I'm plant based because I believe that helps

The hypocrisy - I fly far too much for leisure

Am I doing enough? - No

Does that really matter? Probably not

What I'd like to see? You are allowed 1 return flight per person per year.....
Oh geez, that would hurt. In one year alone I took 136 flights.

Very.
Not for me but for my kids and grandkids and their kids when they come.
But then having a career in O&G for decades I'm just about as big a hypocrite as you'll find.

Well fair enough, I'm sure you're right. But until India, China, Russia, Brazil and the USA all start to worry as much as we are on this thread, we can't reverse much I don't think? Not saying we shouldn't try, but it doesn't keep me awake at night for that reason - I can't influence them and its effectively out of my hands. I'll continue recycling, walking/cycling and not eating meat though.
That's the other arguement I hear to. Nothing we can do because of the populous countries and their energy drain. I find it tough to accept that because surely we should do what we should. I struggle with people putting their hands up and saying "it's hopeless because of China" etc.. not a dig at you of course. You sound like you really are doing your bit. Just some people have used it as a justification for not caring.

Fwiw I'm like the OP. I do care but my actions don't reflect my concern. I do have an EV and when I get I house I'll be installing solar. And I do recycle but I still eat meat

To be honest I give very little consideration to it and it doesn't affect the choices I make in my day-to-day life.
I would consider solar panels or an electric car but that is down to financial savings than climate change consideration.

its something that I've spent far too much time worrying about for about the last 40 years. I've now stopped worrying about it - I'm "post caring" - accepted its happening (and far faster than is generally reported), accepted the human race is completely incapable of resolving anything challenging, accepted theres b***r all individuals can do apart from try and be nice to each other as things degrade. I've always said to my kids that I have no personal desire for grandchildren, but what they do is completely upto them of course. all this talk of ev vehicles etc as some sort of solution is well meaning, but to me its all ******* in the wind given the scale of the problems coming our way with all the 'locked in' damage we've already created for ourselves. its such a human thing to think we can make a few last minute changes, everything will reverse & rewind, and magically put itself back together again - I find that a sweet notion, that humans need to believe as a comfort blanket, but is completely illogical.

so I'm just going to try & live the best life I can, watch the footy & cricket, enjoy beer and get on with it

Ah, the old climate hoax.
When it comes to science I am a nerd. In the spirit of this I have done my own research into climate change and I'm sorry (not sorry) to say that we, as a species on this planet, are not the problem.
The planet is cyclical with respect to it's climate, and the changed therein. Ice core drilling in particular has identified a natural swing on this planet from times of extreme heat and extreme cold over many millennia. The earth is currently entering one of it's 'hot' cycles.
Sure, man made pollution certainly is healthy, but it's not what is causing any perceived 'climate change'.

Having said that, I am conscious of the impact that humans are making on the planet and I always recycle, try to go for a 'green' option when given a choice. But that is more from the perspective that I dont want to contribute to plastics etc polluting areas of outstanding natural beauty and threatening the existence of the other living organisms that co-exist with us. Not because I'm trying to save the planet from an existential man made global warming disaster.

"I've done my own research".😂

Ooh wicket in the Cricket..

If tomorrow everyone in the U.K. stopped driving, eating meat, travelling on anything other than foot, all power stations were closed down and we relied upon renewables, took every other action available - it would not make a jot of difference. 65 million people, not a jot.

It needs a global solution with the needs of the planet put before nations, multi-nationals, the rich, the powerful. This will never happen, mankind will end up destroying the planet.

There’s nothing to be done. So I don’t worry too much about it.
This is exactly what I needed to hear so I can continue in my bubble of ignorance guilt free.

What a hugely pessimistic viewpoint.

One small glimmer of hope - most of the students I teach have virtually no interest in vehicle ownership. I'd like to think it's because of concern for the environment, but it's largely driven by smartphone use. They'd far rather be passengers engaging with social media than drivers.

I'm not concerned, more resigned to it, in the way that I might be if a big eff off asteroid was heading our way.

Sometimes I'll do my bit with some recycling and I'm pretty frugal with clothes, but I still fly too often and take the oil and gas or coal fired power generation shilling for work when it suits me.

I think it's one of those things where we'd all like more to be done and we'd all acknowledge that we could do more ourselves, but there's invariably an easier path that we take for short term convenience or gain.

What a message that would send to the rest of the world though.

You think mankind will deliver a solution? That China, India, US, U.K. etc will put aside their differences, ambitions, desires, imperialism and work together to solve the climate crisis?

The world has been fighting for centuries. For power, money, religion, influence. It’s not going to change.

Don’t think it’s pessimism, it’s realism.
Wars and conflicts are unavoidable however China, India, US, U.K. Could all be near 100% renewable for energy in the next 15 years. Technology will provide solutions for energy transport farming. We can save the planet

TBF wars are good for the environment though? They remove resource heavy organics from the planet.
