How can anyone take the Labour Party seriously any more.

Biggest concern for Labour? Trailing by 5 points in the polls. They should be 15% plus ahead . Tories must be laughing and feeling it doesn’t matter how bad they are. Labour are deemed to be worse..Sobering thought
Completely agree. They’ve had donkeys years of austerity imposed by Cameron and Osbourne, the sheer incompetence of the May government and now this rabble. And they still can’t lay a glove on them.

Colin, do you know what the word "disestablishment" means in the sentence "The disestablishment of the Church of England"?

I suspect you do not.
Yes. The church's disestablishment I.e. the abolition of its official status as state church.

A long way to go until the next election. There are huge hurdles for the Tories to get over with an economy that is in utter tatters due to their incompetence and covid. If they manage to get it going again and deal with the Brexit issues that are currently huge then they'll win comfortably again- however it won't be 80 seats. It'll more than likely be a Labour/Lib/SNP coalition if the economy completely tanks and they get it wrong with taxation and spending over the next couple of years.
It’s a very sorry situation if the best a once great party can hope for is getting into bed with the party that colluded with the Tories on austerity.

Why does the state need a church?
A separate argument. My question is why the Labour party would assume that the abolition of a state church and the associated constitutional reform not seen in centuries would be a vote winner, and not the kind of extreme policy which scares voters away.

Perhaps it'll be replaced by the Church of Wales as the state church. Seems fair. And Wales needs to be represented in the union jack.

This thread is a great example of how the right wing media herd the sheep.
The majority of voters will behave like sheep. Instead of acting the sheepdog with its policies, the Labour Party alienates the sheep. Which will do nothing but push them further and further to the fringe at election time.

Have you read all of the posts?! There’s more than a fair smattering of very pro Labour comments- the only way they are influenced by the right wing media is to slaughter them.

So I don’t see how and what relevance the comments you make have any bearing on a fair proportion of posters on this thread.

They’re an embarrassment. Remind me of the post Thatcher days the tories went through, when they didn’t know what direction to go in and just stumbled from one dreadful leader to another, until they brought in Cameron. Labour have suffered the same fate since Blair. Just one unelectable buffoon after another. If there was a GE tomo I’d abstain from voting as Labour are done for. If the Tories do a good job Levelling up thenLabour will never get back those lent votes and I don’t see how they could get into power for a long long time. Alienated the Scots and the English working classes. Political suicide of the highest order

The word has been deliberately misrepresented as if the Labour Party was proposing abolishing the CofE. Instead the proposal would be most obvious in removing the CofE from the House of Lords. It would also remove the bias against other religions and make the state truly secular. Or at least a start towards it.

It is the same tactic used by the Right Wing press if Labour proposed punitive death taxes to reduce the way in which wealth and privilege is preserved amongst the "Moneyed Elite" there would be articles on how Aunty May would lose out when she tried to pass her suburban semidetached in Wilmslow to Arthur and Barbara.
If the Tories do a good job Levelling up
Bless, as if...

I’m convinced they will. They know if they do that’s Labour screwed for donkeys years. If they want to win the next election which they probs will then they need to keep those lent votes onside. Pains me to say it but I think they’ll do whatever is Needed to make this happen. Labour are ****ed. They’ve lost their identity completely

With the unholy mess that the Tories have made of Brexit, Covid, the economy, public spending and everything else that is disastrous, you wouldn't think it possible for Labour to be losing ground in the polls. But they are, and another load of new ridiculous policies is going to push them back even further. It's like a suicide pact.

The Tories have spent the last year or so putting hundreds of billions into peoples pockets through business loans (given out with a lucky bag), the furlough scheme (millions of low incomes on paid holidays or able to also do another job), PM instruction to work from home (allowing millions to avoid the 2 hours of commute in the traffic jam or the packed train), and the Covid policy built around protecting the Tory core over 65’s vote.

Why does anybody think Labour should be 15% ahead?

Johnson should be 20% ahead with the taxpayers money he has spent.

Let‘s see what happens when the books have to be balanced and the unemployment rises...
