Houchen loses in court

Gazette has gone with the tactic of publishing the full ruling to try and obfuscate matters.

If BenT had won there would have been a banner headline and a picture of him in full high viz, grinning like a Cheshire cat saying what a disgrace PD Ports are.
There's nothing to obfuscate though surely? It's PD Ports land, always has been and this court case was never in the public's interest. £5m of taxpayer's money spaffed up the wall.

"However, PD Port’s claims of proprietary estoppel - a legal remedy that can be used when a landowner has promised property will be transferred to someone else at a later date, only to later renege on their statement - fails."

"However, the judgement states: “[PD Port’s] claim that it has further rights over Access Route 1 under the 1964 Deed pursuant to s. 62 Law of Property Act 1925 is not successful."

"We welcome the judgement and are pleased that after a lengthy process, a ruling has now been made by the High Court which confirms that no rights exist preventing the development of the Teesworks site.
...
During proceedings PD Ports withdrew a large number of their claims, many of which were on roadways which either no longer existed or are currently being demolished as part of the site redevelopment works."

"A total of 18 different claimed rights of way were brought to the court by PDT. All but six were either dropped by PDT or went in favour of STDC."

Spin, spin, spin.
