Homophobic chanting in the South Stand yesterday

I was sat in the East stand as close to their away fans as i could be. I heard the Rent Boy chant but am pretty sure it happened once. Wasn't massively loud (people hearing it in the North Stand I can accept but they must have decent hearing).

I am in no way excusing it and would never sing it myself but think some people need to get a grip.

There are idiots throughout society and they do stuff like this for reactions - to validate that they themselves exist and matter. It's not necessarily a hatred towards homosexuals etc. It is distasteful and offensive, no doubt, but I would now argue that 95%+ of people know this and don't sing it. The remaining 5% or less won't be "educated" on it as they are just trying to get a reaction, it is very rarely through used through ignorance.

Chants like "Sad Mackem b****d" can ring through the Riverside and be sung by the many thousands of all ages in the derbies. Mackems and people born out of wedlock could easily be offended by that (they have no choice over their birth any more than homosexuals) but we don't see people getting their knickers in a twist over it.

I hope my thoughts have come across as they were intended - that whilst the mentioned chants have no place in modern society, worrying about the remaining tiny minority that use it for reactions isn't a major thing to worry about especially given how hard it can be to identify and actually stop them.
Last point first. If people reported it. And gave details. They would probably be identified. Such is the technology available in stadiums.
This chant has been identified as a hate crime. Many clubs such as ours do encourage education in many cases such as this for the perpetrators.
Making sure those that chant know exactly why their words are far more destructive and have far more reaching overtones than singing "mackem bstds" or soft southern bstds etc...

Whilst the legislation is there it needs to be followed up by taking action for things to change. Fines to clubs and individuals would soon put an end to this.

Let’s be honest though have you ever joined in with this chant - I have , was probably about twenty years ago now. I’ve been to Milwall when the most of the away end were singing this when we beat them 5-1 which must be about 6-7 years ago.

It was very clear from the north stand, no decent hearing required.

I get what you're trying to say with the last paragraph, but i don't agree. It reflects badly on us, and sets the tone for younger fans to follow.

As for the b*****d bit, are you for real?

I did not hear it from the back of the North Stand - but as I say if you do hear this again - probably not going to happen until next season - or any other discriminatory chanting ie racist/homophobic - then report it on your phone to Kick It Out and then it will be officially recorded and reported and hopefully acted upon.
This is HOME or AWAY

We as a forum and a fanbase need to stand up to the hatred that is being spouted from a minority of the crowd, there is a boro fans forum that spouted that much racism I had to report two of its posters and now it is closed off to the rest of the internet. We as true boro fans can stop the hate.

Is that correct? Whats the name of the website?

Yes it is correct, I will not speak its name again but it’s pretty obvious which one. As a support we need to look out for each other when it comes to racism, homophobia, misogyny and any other hate. If you see it then speak up is my advice to all.

I'm a bit stuck with this crossword clue mate. Maybe you can help me out. Five letter word for a firearm. Rhymes with trifle. What on Earth could it be?

As far as I’m aware nothing has materialised with it.
So not guilty of whatever they were reported for then? Possibly?
A Google search of "Middlesbrough FC fan forums" brings up 8 different websites including this one. The top result not been this website.

I think your all being a bit over the top. I've said it before, for years we endured 'what's it like to sha g your kids' 'Town full of paedos' etc. I was nearly thrown out at Newcastle for flicking the v's and telling them where to go in response to it, but did the police do anything? No because nobody cares. It still goes on but do you start a thread about it? No a thread on town full of rent boys so the South stand can be attacked. It's football, it's tribalism. Take your faux outrage and watch the match on TV with the sound off.

I think the club needs to start looking into providing hearing services for our fans, I sit in the west lower, close to the north stand and you could hear the chant clear as day, my mind boggles at those who never heard it, albeit it wasn't for very long but it was very clear what was being sung.

I presume it was also faux outrage from yourself at those chants at Newcastle.

Should have kept your fingers in your pockets, it's just tribalism.

Idiot #2

Whenever you watch vlogs from away fans and they point the camera towards the south stand, the fans on the end of the rows toward the away section basically spend the whole game looking at and trying to get a reaction from the away fans.

Pointless and cringeworthy.
They should turn the end 2 rows of seats around so they directly face the away fans and charge the idiots a premium to sit there,
