Has George Russell proved the car is actually the star?

Glad he lost, myself.

Would only fuel the conspiracies denying Hamilton's talent if Russell had done well.

Well done to Perez, Ocon and Stroll.

Massive congratulations to George Russell despite everything going against him today.

One thing I take out of this. Don't discount the possibility of Mercedes binning Bottas next season.

No doubt Hamilton drives his car superbly and he is head and shoulders ahead of anyone else in F1 at the moment. However, F1 isn’t in any way a level playing field. It’s like giving a football team a 12th player or a golfer an extra club. Hamilton will smash every record going but never has the sport seen such a disparity in the quality of the cars competing. Not his fault but it does tarnish his incredible achievements a little.

Nothing, absolutely nothing, tarnishes Hamilton's achievements.
I can't recall folks downplaying Schumacher's championships.

I think part of the issue with that is that people tend to view it from only a driver's perspective, when engineering is such a key part of the sport.

If it was meant to be stock cars only, then it'd be a levelling playing field for drivers but that's not how the sport works.

Gutted for Russell and felt he deserved more. Yes the car is fast, but Russell drove well when needed, but his team screwed a podium finish up and then the bad luck of the puncture.

His time will come, but I hope he's driving again next week - Hamilton doesn't need the points.

what I love about F1 is their commitment to wearing masks.. I've just seen probably 20-30 people in the background of an interview and not one didn't wear a mask.. and not one had it below their nose..... a total difference to football.

I think part of the issue when anybody is dominating in any sport is it gets boring .. just like when Man Utd were dominating under Fergie everybody suddenly started to "hate" them .. the same is true with Lewis. I don't think many truly hand on heart doubt his ability but it does suck a lot of the excitement out of the races when the fastest driver on the grid sitting in the fastest car on the grid completely dominates races as he does.

Utter b***ks... the only thing that proved is Mercedes had a mare in the pits.. the cynic in me says it was deliberate to stop too many questions being asked had he won.
Russell would have won even after the ****-up in the pits if it hadn't been for the slow puncture.

Are you really suggesting that Mercedes fixed that as well?

Let's be honest that race was everything that we've grown to hate about F1.. I feel terrible for George he deserved much better.

Cruising to a finish and then safety car yet again and on top mercedes having an epic fail.

You may have grown to hate it but don't speak for me.
