I dont think we should sell him for less than £40m. Look at how the top clubs are all circling with their mouths open.Don't they know our price is 10-12 million with add ons?

True enough, but he’s still good enough for a mid table prem team in my opinion. A season at somewhere like West Ham (for example) would give him a much better chance of then breaking into a top team, compared to another season at Boro.I can.
His breakthrough is only relatively recent.
True, but he’ll learn quicker at a mid table prem team than he would with us.He's had one season in the Championship (out injured for 2-3 months). Still an enormous amount to learn imo.
Disagree.True, but he’ll learn quicker at a mid table prem team than he would with us.
50/50. I get your point. But playing prem football every week surrounded by better players will also help him improve. Plus that’s more likely to convince the big clubs that he’s ready for a starting place with them.Disagree.
He couldn't be better placed than with Carrick to improve as a midfielder.
But what happens if he's not playing regularly, similar to Philips at Man City? Training with better players isn't going to improve him.50/50. I get your point. Also got to think about international call ups. Very rare from the championship.
That's about picking the right club isn't it. Not going somewhere there is 5 or 6 world class CMs in front of him.But what happens if he's not playing regularly, similar to Philips at Man City? Training with better players isn't going to improve him.
Thought gibbo would never do any business with liverpool after their shenanigans with ziege?
Which reminds me a lot of Carrick in his playing days.I don't think I realised just how good he was until I watched this video.
He has that rare combination of being a defensive midfielder and playmaker. He also has pace and can beat players. Pretty much the ideal midfielder. He makes so many defence splitting passes. Quite apart from the vision to make those passes and the accuracy, its the weight of the pass that is so special. The ball arrives at the players' feet at just the right pace.
Hackney is the best player on the pitch in at least half the games he plays in. When your that good. It starts to get taken for granted and people stop mentioning. He's outstanding at this level and needs to be playing higher.I don't think I realised just how good he was until I watched this video.

B_G summed it up. Needs to pick his club. Shouldn’t go near Man City (just like Phillips shouldn’t have). But what happens if he's not playing regularly, similar to Philips at Man City? Training with better players isn't going to improve him.
I am still sore about that, was it something daft like 12 mill we gave tav away for for?
It doesn't matter how good the manager is, he can't replicate playing higher level football. Everything happens that bit quicker in the PL. The players are that little bit better and the only way to improve to that standard is to play at the standard.I wouldn't be at all surprised if he stays another season.
He has got a lot of talent but Carrick is exactly the right manager to develop that talent.
He does not need to play against prem sides to improve at the moment, unless we think Carrick has nothing to teach him?
Firstly Hackney and Spence are miles apart in ability and attitudeGet a transfer to a top six club after 1 good season. Djed Spence.
Get a transfer to one of the other premier league clubs after establishing yourself in a number of seasons in the championship. Tav.
Which one of the two was the sensible decision?
Firstly yes.Firstly Hackney and Spence are miles apart in ability and attitude
Secondly, this is already Hackney's second good season.
Thirdly, you could argue Tav only really had one good season in the championship. He really broke through under Wilder. He'd been pretty underwhelming up to that point
