Hackney

Be a shame if we got to the final and he wasn’t here to play for his club in a cup final.

When I was watching the Chelsea match I thought Hackney really didn't seem out of place against good Premier players and at the same time I was thinking he isn't going to be here much longer. I was secretly wishing he would play a bit rubbish against decent teams so we can keep him longer 😂.

Not many of them looked out of place. Chelsea were ***** haha

I'm not one for begging players.. but...
I'd be pleading with him to stay another year.

We're starting to look like a top 4 squad for next year (with one or two signings maybe).
It's just took too long this year for the signings to find their feet fully + injuries beyond expectation.

Make him Captain ( Howson is likely retire after this year from full time starter )
Make him the best paid player at the club.
Extend his contract a year.
Add a transfer fee clause of 30million with a caveat of end of 24/25 season if we don't go up. 40 if we do. ( Somebody WILL pay it )

His career is on a similar path to Declan Rice, and some players do love their hometown club.

It comes with the territory of producing good young players.

As long as we get the right compensation for losing him then it's fine, as sad as it is to lose him.
But you never get anywhere by selling your best players - as we know only too well going back to Hodgson, Proctor, Armstrong, Johnston et al and more recently Tav, Spence and Akpom. It just ends up as one step forward and two back. Although i agree there is not much we can do as a champ club when prem clubs come knocking for our best players.

Ideally i would love one more season of Hackney, i think that with the squad we are building and with who is likely to go up from the champo and down from the prem this season then next season we could challenge the auto places.

Still a good chance of making the playoffs this season depending on injuries though.

I think our current transfer strategy and FFP relies on us making sales so we will always lose at least one top player a season, Brentford managed to do it over a few seasons before getting promoted.
