Golf is back

Oh yes I know, and I do. But our local club (which is 2m walk away) actually opened itself up entirely for public use (stay off the greens) during the lockdown so people had a new place to exercise, my littlun loves going and watching the heron on the duck pond there and lobbing sticks in it, and playing golf with his little plastic golf set.

Maybe I'll get us both signed up!
"lobbing sticks in"! Good grief!

Its a massive pond with a few ducks in that hang around down the other end. My pre-schooler lobs a few little, light, thin sticks in to the very shallow water, they're mostly from trees around it that overhang the pond anyway. No animals are harmed in this process!:)

My club has 2 courses, and you can normally get a tee time between 08:00 and 17:30 this time of year and expect to get 18 holes in.
That gives us, at eight minute intervals, 71 tee times per day, per course.
If we're forced to play alone, that means 142 players per day. Our club has 1200 members.
Better than nothing, I suppose, but really can't see the problem in having 4 balls of sensible people maintaining distance

You'll be able to play in pairs keeping 2m apart. It will be announced today or tomorrow.

Golf England were far too quick to issue a statement last night, when nothing was mentioned about golf, apart from by the pig in the lipstick on Sky News.

'Pig in Lipstick' - It appears kindness has run out of steam pretty quickly

It does seem strange that I could meet my three pals in the park, and walk for three hours, but I couldn't meet the same three pals on the golf course and walk round that for 3 hours.

Doesn't apply to me though.

In terms of sports that can easily adapt to social distancing then golf must be very high up the list, in fact in general you spend 2m apart the majority of the time when on the course, and as long as the removal and replacement of the flag is done by the same person then it’s even easier to protect players from infecting each other.

The R&A, SGU and Golf England is trying to get clubs to leave the pin in all the time, and have the cup inverted so the ball doesn't fall in. Hit the cup and it's deemed as holed. Closing practice facilities, and the clubhouse (except for toilets) makes golf about as safe as you can be.

And now the government has announced that you can play with one person from outside your household. That's sense really.

I know we are not supposed to compare but does anyone know how golfers fare in other countries at the moment

🤣
Absolutely gutting for them if they have to stay shut ..
There is literally no argument to not being allowed to play apart from 'people shouldn't have fun'
Surely a police car from Wales wouldn't drive on to a fairway to arrest someone?

Don't believe the hype!
(That's on R6music as I try to type!)

I reckon the flag will have to stay in

I was thinking that. I’m nto a golfer myself but surely it should be the first sport to be reintroduced? Huge open spaces. Provided you stay of the greens when your opponents are putting there are literally only 18 times you are likely to be close to even the people you are playing with. I can’t see how it doesn’t fit in with current social distancing rules, let alone tomorrow relaxed laws. Maybe (before tomorrow’s unlimited exercise provision) it just took too long to play?
