Gold Season Card Holders

No, not pedantic, just trying to familiarise myself with what I though was a new word to add to my vocabulary.

Was it really a typo? Or just a spelling mistake? 😀

You people need to lighten up.

Says the man trying to make hay out of a typo. Just to clarify look at the position of letters on the keyboard - where are the "I" and the "U"?

Look we get it, you think the club can do no wrong, but on this matter they've not communicated effectively with their paying supporters.

Gone over my head? What an assumption. Most people can set up their notifications to get the correct information delivered to their inbox.

You can't? Let's not make renewing a season ticket into a complicated affair.
Can’t what?

Your sentence on notifications is irrelevant to my comments.

Buying a season ticket isn’t complicated when the club give people the right information. Thankfully having renewed before all this started it hasn’t affected me but that doesn’t mean the club are beyond reproach for an appalling lack of communication.

Anymore thoughts on this?
Anyone have any details of schemes elsewhere - possibly not even in football???

The club have definitely reached out to the official supporters club to gauge opinion on how to proceed. I've noticed yourself, Mark Motley and the Twe12thman asking the same question. Nothing wrong with that i suppose, hopefully the club act on the feedback.

Supporters Forum has a zoom meeting tomorrow evening and we want to gather as much opinion as possible ahead of this. At the moment this has to be the main issue for fans everywhere. Then we can feed it back to the club.

So, lets keep thinking of ideas - I think the feeling that there should be match tickets available is very valid indeed. We have to keep the community interest going don't we.

I just think it would be safer to have this as all season tickets and no match day sales, meaning people can remain in designated bubbles, as how would you manage match day sales, would you leave one block for match day sales and sell them in batches of 1,2,3 etc. Seats to a predesignated seating plan and with so few seats to sell would it be really worth the hassle?

That was my point. I talked with Captain 5 about this he made a valid point that if match by match tickets are not made available next season, fans that don't have a season ticket, who for whatever reason financial, geographical, work related etc, wont have had the chance to watch the Boro live for 18 months. That is plenty of time to form new habits. For me i'm now out playing golf a lot more regularly, i could very easily end up spending my Boro ticket money on new clubs/course membership/golf holidays. Food for thought for the club.

I don't understand this. What's the difference between season ticket holders sitting near each other and match by match ticket holders sitting near a season ticket holder?

It is not a matter of season ticket holders sitting near each other, they will be sitting next to each other, in a pre-agreed social bubble, how do you manage that on a match by match basis, in a block of match day only seats? The club would have to configure a Covid friendly seating plan for that block, with some single seats, some pairs of seats, some blocks of 3 seats, and so on....

Younger fans shouldn’t be forgotten. We need them to stay supporters for the future of our club. They won’t be old enough to have gold cards so you’ll have the unfortunate situation of a dad or mum being able to renew during the GC exclusive period but not being able to renew their child’s ticket.

To an extent this is where the GC priority status falls down. There’s no way for anyone who doesn’t currently have it to earn it and there should be.

This is exactly where GC status falls down, it was determined by one specific moment in time, so nobody else can aspire to or be incentivised to be a GC holder, and people have actually kept there GC to keep the benefits but let someone else take over the card but keep in their name, which makes the whole thing farcical. Also when a dad and lad want to renew in the current situation then they can’t if one is a GC and one is not.

I honestly don't see what the issue is? It's the same when the club nearly sells out a regular match. Single seats are available in different areas of the ground or two seats are available but at pitch level only etc.

The whole idea of the Gold Card is to reward people who have had season tickets since Day 1 at the Riverside. You can't suddenly earn that. As each year goes by the number of Gold Card holders will diminish.

To be honest a Gold Card gives you absolutely no benefits in terms of home tickets under normal circumstances. For away games the Priority Points system was supposed to even things up. A Gold Card member only got 5 points more than "Chairman's Drink" season ticket holder and 10 more than any standard season ticket holder, even one who'd only held a season ticket for a year versus the 20+ years of a Gold Card holder. The benefits of being a Gold Card holder in normal circumstances are not particularly advantageous.

But in the current situation the benefit was HUGE and that’s the situation we are discussing.

Is anyone from the club actually involved in the meeting?

We are but I was referring to your point about being able to attain Gold Card status.

Its only HUGE if all Gold Card holders who have renewed are guaranteed to be able to attend and at the moment we don't know thats certain.

My point about being able to attain the status is because the club have made use of it!

If you’ve renewed and games can have fans you have a seat - the club wouldn’t have taken any further renewals even from GC holders if not.

They have I agree but to put it into some context

There are approximately 3000 Gold Card holders.

Before the exclusive window only 6000 in total had renewed with 1500 believed to be Gold Card holders.

There was only a 4 day window exclusively for Gold Card holders to renew.

After the window shut the club stopped selling tickets they announced that there were 7900 tickets sold but we know that the club also sold tickets to regular season ticket holders.

Out of the 7900 now sold its ~3000 max Gold Card holders if you assume they all renewed but I know some haven't.

BUT they still got something no other season card holder got - a 4 day renewal window which is why if they’re now using GC status then there needs to be less of an arbitrary cut off. Parents and children not being able to renew is a joke.
