He's commented already on this and why he went. Neville has done quite a bit for homeless people in Manchester so it's not just sound bites.Got absolutely no issue whatsoever with Neville crititicising our government, he's right to do so.
But it's a bit rich to complain about the Qataris after being well paid to commentate on their state network.

Personally really like the guy and what he stands for. Good on him
He commented on it because he was called out on the sheer hypocrisy of it.
His answer didn't actually excuse him going to work for the Qatar state media, it was just him unsuccessfully attempting to do so.
Don't take this in any way as a defence of our dreadful government, I'm still glad that Neville is saying it, I just think he's undeniably a hypocrite when he's taken a fortune to commentate on football for a country he's then criticising.
It's not the same as Linekar, who went out as a pundit for the BBC, Neville was over there as an employee of the Qatari state and nobody forced him to do so.
He'd have been given the same publicity here for his comments if he'd worked for a British media outlet.
I despised the whole thing with their human rights views but if I was going to get a few years pay for 4 weeks work I would find that extremely hard to turn down.Got absolutely no issue whatsoever with Neville crititicising our government, he's right to do so.

I think you can still criticise their human rights views but you are at risk of being called a hypocrite for taking the Qatari shilling. It’s a tough one.And you'd be a hypocrite to criticise them after doing so.
Hypocrisy is everywhere in modern society. I bet most of us posting on this board are hypocrites too.
My mate boycotted this World Cup, yet he works for a Saudi owned private healthcare organisation. He went there cos they paid more than the NHS.
The likes of Mick Lynch and Gary Neville will never be a thorn in the government’s side for very long because at some point the media will always uncover a huge act of hypocrisy.
Politicians themselves don’t make any bones about it, in fact they basically seem to embrace it.
I don’t know what point I’m making here other than the fact we should probably stop treating hypocrisy like some kind of unforgivable act when our government and overlords seem to celebrate it as a badge of honour.
Everyone has been a hypocrite at one or another. You're not wrong, I spent years complaining about the World Cup being in Qatar.
I'm 100% a hypocrite for watching every single match after making such a big deal over the issues of it being held there.
