Gary Neville

It's very amusing how Neville and Lineker get shouted down for commenting on social issues because they're not qualified from their professions, yet the public routinely vote for barristers, financiers and even journalists to represent them in Parliament.

Almost as though some people are annoyed at other people's social consciences making them confront their own lack of care for their fellow man.

I agree with everything he says - he seems like a very bright guy that isn't afraid to express his opinion - However, I think the build up to the world cup final is the wrong place to do so.
He should seriously consider a career in politics but doubt there would be enough money in it for him.

Funilly enough I was watching YouTube last night and Kier starmer was on the ad breaks telling me about his five favourite football matches. It almost made me switch my vote to labour but the **** wasn't wearing a union jack so my vote stays with Jeremy corbyns workers and anti semites party.

I thought the thing people didn't like about Lineker was the hypocrisy. Taking a massive salary from the public purse, dodgy tax affairs and then complaining about other people doing the same. I agree with most of what Lineker says but not what he does.

Got absolutely no issue whatsoever with Neville crititicising our government, he's right to do so.

But it's a bit rich to complain about the Qataris after being well paid to commentate on their state network.

He's commented already on this and why he went. Neville has done quite a bit for homeless people in Manchester so it's not just sound bites.

Personally really like the guy and what he stands for. Good on him

He commented on it because he was called out on the sheer hypocrisy of it.

His answer didn't actually excuse him going to work for the Qatar state media, it was just him unsuccessfully attempting to do so.

Don't take this in any way as a defence of our dreadful government, I'm still glad that Neville is saying it, I just think he's undeniably a hypocrite when he's taken a fortune to commentate on football for a country he's then criticising.

It's not the same as Linekar, who went out as a pundit for the BBC, Neville was over there as an employee of the Qatari state and nobody forced him to do so.

He'd have been given the same publicity here for his comments if he'd worked for a British media outlet.

Dont agree with it tho

I despised the whole thing with their human rights views but if I was going to get a few years pay for 4 weeks work I would find that extremely hard to turn down.

Hypocrisy is everywhere in modern society. I bet most of us posting on this board are hypocrites too.

My mate boycotted this World Cup, yet he works for a Saudi owned private healthcare organisation. He went there cos they paid more than the NHS.

The likes of Mick Lynch and Gary Neville will never be a thorn in the government’s side for very long because at some point the media will always uncover a huge act of hypocrisy.

Politicians themselves don’t make any bones about it, in fact they basically seem to embrace it.

I don’t know what point I’m making here other than the fact we should probably stop treating hypocrisy like some kind of unforgivable act when our government and overlords seem to celebrate it as a badge of honour.

You're not wrong, I spent years complaining about the World Cup being in Qatar.
I'm 100% a hypocrite for watching every single match after making such a big deal over the issues of it being held there.

Everyone has been a hypocrite at one or another.

There's different levels of hypocrisy though. There's a huge difference between watching a match that is happening whether you want it to our not and accepting millions of pounds to work for them. Or employing accountants to find tax avoiding loopholes in order to retain the maximum amount of tax payers money. Or telling people they should reduce the amount of air travel they do when they are heavy users of private jets etc.

I think most people fall in to the category of disagree with the system but it is the system we have so we don't really have a massive choice about partaking in the system. It is what it is but we will still campaign to change it. Very far away from exploiting or promoting the system.
