Has there been any data on how tickets were allocated/sold, ie the split between local and people who travelled from afar? There'll have been Boro fans doing it.
Several reasons - the symbolism doesn't sit right with me at all. Firstly it originated as an anti-patriotic gesture during the US anthem. Whether that was justified in the US or not is not up for debate - the knee symbolises US anti-patriotic sentiment which there is no need to replicate in the UK. It makes me feel uncomfortable to copy that here. Why do you oppose the gesture?
You choosing to ascertain that gesture to those things, the players taking the knee don’tSeveral reasons - the symbolism doesn't sit right with me at all. Secondly is a more nuanced point - the gesture actually apes the action of Derek Chauvin himself. I think as a gesture it couldn't be in worse taste.
Third - the politics and aims of BLM are certainly questionable and don't warrant my unwavering support.
Fourth - see my post #23 on this thread. I'm sure there are other reasons too.
Not sure why you are trying to eliminate boro fans from this, Middlesbrough is a racist townBy the way just because they were local doesn’t mean they support boro either as plenty of plastic Liverpool rtc fans live locally.
nothing to do with the boro
No counter-argument there then. You can't believe fully in one and the other I'm afraid.
Well that is wrong for a start.Firstly it originated as an anti-patriotic gesture during the US anthem
Nonsense. If I enter a Catholic church I kneel before I enter the pew as I was taught. It is a very old gesture of fealty.the gesture actually apes the action of Derek Chauvin himself.
Also just wrong. BLM certainly has some members with "questionable" politics as does the Tory party the Labour Party, MFC, The Women's Institute, et bleedin cetera. The politics of those members are picked up by those who wish to divide us.the politics and aims of BLM are certainly questionable
That is how the hard right media spun Kaepernick action then trump revved that mantra up but as above you’ve missed the point.it originated as an anti-patriotic gesture during the US anthem.
This is what I can't get my head around, if you don't like them taking the knee - no idea why you would by the way - just keep quiet. The crucial difference is between not agreeing with something and actively protesting (by booing) against it.
I don't agree with taking the knee but I certainly wouldn't condemn those who choose to do so.
By not agreeing with taking the knee that alone doesn't make anyone racist unless you want to include Assembalonga, Fletcher, Akpomb, Bola etc as racists.
Nope. Done during the national anthem with back turned to flag.Well that is wrong for a start.
It also copies Chauvin, which seems to me in poor taste to its cause. I appreciate that not everybody will equate that.Nonsense. If I enter a Catholic church I kneel before I enter the pew as I was taught. It is a very old gesture of fealty.
None of those organisations encourages kneeling or any mass gesture politics and if they did, I'd certainly oppose the same. Also just wrong. BLM certainly has some members with "questionable" politics as does the Tory party the Labour Party, MFC, The Women's Institute, et bleedin cetera. The politics of those members are picked up by those who wish to divide us.
I do. They are racist. This booing because they don't agree with Black Lives Matter as a movement argument is a contrivance. A racist contrivance by racists being racists.I just don’t understand the booing - fine to disagree but to boo?
The gesture fed the divisive far right this is true but it didn't need any "spin" to seem unpatriotic. That is how the hard right media spun Kaepernick action then trump revved that mantra up but as above you’ve missed the point.
The TV companies lower the sound so I can certainly believe this.Nothing to do with the area, it would have happened last night no matter where the game was played. It will probably happen on Sunday and it will also probably happen at Wembley. What are the FA going to do if it happens on Sunday? I’m concerned that it’s an unnecessary distraction before a major tournament we have every chance of winning. It wasn’t isolated last night, it was loud - I was there. And going off the flags and the accents around me last night, I would say only a small minority were from Teesside or Boro fans but obviously we are now guilty by association.
Exactly loads of southern voices around me as well so England fans not boro hell there was a huge wolves and Bristol flag behind the goal what more evidence do you need how varied the crowd was.Nothing to do with the area, it would have happened last night no matter where the game was played. do you understand why?Nope. Done during the national anthem with back turned to flag
People used the gesture to highlight racial inequality before chauvin killed someoneIt also copies Chauvin, which seems to me in poor taste to its cause. I appreciate that not everybody will equate that.
