Gareth Southgate's strong message after some supporters booed when England players take the knee [Gazette]

There is racism in society and we are generations away from changing that.

All most of us can do is continue to support each other regardless of race or creed.

Oh and don't vote for a racist as pm.

Not everyone is a racist in England and there are other countries that are worse but I think there is an undercurrent of racism in England that will be around for the next few generations until they die off.

Some people are adamant this is not the case but that is because they do not recognise what racism is. It's like BLM - if you don't get it or why it's needed you certainly are part of the problem.

You think everyone should support this shower of $hit ?. Maybe you should look int what BLM actually stand for - beyond their three letter acronym.

Not everyone booing "the knee" are as ignorant of their agenda as some of the posters on here clearly are.
Indeed. Some would have you believe they were the second coming of Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks.

And there you have in two sentences why fans boo.

Because the consensus says you SHOULD BE THINKING THIS and "if you don't agree with me, STFU!"
Only that not why some people boo - they 'boo' because they dont believe in or understand equality (for many varied reasons- including their own political outlooks) and want things to stay the same, or get worse.

i remember the NF spewing their hatred outside football grounds in 1975 & 76 - their bastardised sons are now saying 'keep politics out of football'.

the councils decision to provide land for The Riverside was a political decision.

The Hearts team going to war en masse was a political decision.

The forming of Woolwich Arsenal, the nations military team, was a political decision.

Bertie Mee & Wilf Mannion going to Italy to oust Mussolini - an act of raw anti fascism - was a political decision.

politics has always been in football.

but one if the BLM founders, a self proclaimed Marxist just resigned for buying a $3m property portfolio, clearly out of donations if she had to resign.
That's a huge and unsubstantiated assumption again. She is negative publicity for BLM, so has left, that doesn't mean she has taken money from it, not at all. Directors resign because of bad publicity all the time. If there were any truth in it, you could guarantee the IRS would destroy her.

Also, do look to Act Blue. Ask yourself why BLM donations go directly to them, then why Hundreds of millions of dollars got funnelled to the Democrat party from there.
Probably like every other corporation and charity in america, they have to pin themselves to a certain mast and donate to get change. It's the way their political system works, donations means a voice in government. It stinks but it isn't out of the ordinary. Clearly they would donate to Dems, because Republicans are traditionally conservative and thus against change.

personally I don’t lean towards the right, I just think that organisation is about money making, because it is.
It raises money, all charities do, that isn't a bad thing. Do the directors draw a salary, absolutely all charities work that way. Do they draw excessively, that's pure speculation but it helps the racists to discredit by claiming they do without evidence.

and these men - footballers & anti fascists.

I have it's on their website, what do you find offensive?

Freedom of thought shouldn't be a red herring, anywhere, any time. Not in this society at least. Rape is an act, not a thought! What kind of crass analogy is that?
It's a red herring in this debate. They didn't boo because they felt their freedom of thought is oppressed, they booed because they don't want anti-racism to succeed.

Rape is an act, booing is an act. It's crass to undermine the impact that racism has on ethnic minorities

Trevor Noah addressed this in a question on the tonight show when asked about the biggest difference between South Africa and America. He answered that in SA people have open and honest discussions about racism without shouting each other down. In America they don't. Its largely the same here.

We all need to understand why some people are racist, not academically but why people feel that way.

Address their fears and not resort to name calling when someone offers a different opinion.

Be open and honest. It's how SA moved away from aphartied. Trevor Noah wasnt allowed to live with his dad as he was white. Now he makes jokes about what it was like being brought up in a country where he was outcast for being mixed race.

Because people don’t support BLM and what they stand for, which in this country is what ‘taking the knee’ is associated with. Whether those booing are racist or not is a different matter, and clearly those that are racist have no place at a sporting event, or in society as a whole. Politics has been allowed into sport, and don’t think it’s right for the England football manager to be telling supporters what their opinions should be.
Absolute rubbish this by the way.

We need to drive this abhorrent element out of our grounds. My plan would be to gang up on anyone who boos taking the knee and keep giving them verbals throughout the game until they leave. Then they will either stay away or keep their racist mouths shut next time.

Maybe so. And maybe that's why they'd prefer divisive gesture politics imported from America.
the divide is are you racist or aren't you? So I guess it is.

Not sure that because it is imported from america is why they are booing, I'm pretty sure every person that boos will own some nike and have watched Netflix at some point while eating a McDonalds. Most of them probably quite like america and american culture, particularly the semi-apartheid nature of the place.

is that a serious post?

The booing was an embarrassment to our area. Gareth's a very good communicator and an intelligent man, so he was careful not to apportion blame but it was bloody awful to hear. The people booing may have been from out of our area but we have plenty of bigots and idiots among the Boro faithful who would join in heartily - you don't need to look far to see them. Such people really need to shape up or be identified and shipped out.
I think the vast majority of fans at the game were from outside the area due to the ticketing regulations. As we know there's a good chunk of right wing knuckle draggers follow England, so I wouldn't lumber the blame on teessiders
