Klopp and RanierI have been crowned FIFA Best Mens Coach. Pep hasn’t.

In 2015/2016 Pep won the league and cup double. Ranieri won just the league but Ranieri won FIFA Best Men’s Coach because it was a better achievement than Pep even though Pep won more trophies.

Ranieri exceeded expectations while Pep met his expectations hence Ranieri was crowned FIFA‘s Best Coach. In fact Pep finished 5th in the FIFA Best Men’s Coach that season.

People need to stop with the philosophy that it’s all about the trophies.

This award was changed in 2016 to FIFA Best Mens Coach.
That’s true but I’m just saying Pep hasn’t won it while it’s been Best Men’s Coach which is the time he has been at city because other managers have been more deserving of it despite Peps countless trophies.

And because he's not won it at City, that diminishes his achievements?

Since 2016, the voting has been opened to the general public, which IMO is not right. We have seen recently in the Player of the Month awards in the PL how easy it is to manipulate votes from the public. Most fans vote for their team players/managers etc regardless of who they genuinely believe should win, which is a huge flaw in the voting.

In 2019 Pep won the domestic treble. Something no manager in the whole of the English game has ever won. Not even Busby, Ferguson, Paisley, Clough, Shankly (I could go on naming some incredible managers). And yet because Liverpool won the Champions League (their 6th title) Klopp won the award...

This is why I sometimes take these awards with a pinch of salt. (For example, this season Klopp won Premier League manager of the year - he had the 2nd best squad and he finished 2nd. Although he had a fabulous season in the league. Are the voters seriously suggesting he had a better season in the league than say some like Howe at Newcastle? Frank at Brentford? Conte at Spurs?)

You can manipulate individual awards as the bottom line is, they're an opinion of a certain number of people.

You can't manipulate silverware. Trophies won will always be grained in history.

No it just means your not necessarily a better manager than someone just because you have won more silverware, as the 2016 FIFA Best Men’s Coach Award showed.

True but if the world was to end tomorrow the history books would show Rangers won the most ever league titles (55). Would that make them the greatest team in history, better than Real Madrid, Barca, Bayern etc…

So because Ranieri has a FIFA World Club Coach of the year award, and Pep hasn't won this award since he's been at City....this means Ranieri is a better manager? Wow.

That history book would be incorrect as Linfield have the most league titles - 56 league titles. And also, you'd think a little bit of common sense would prevail...

No, although give Ranieri credit, he has managed a team where he has exceeded expectations, and by some considerable way.

It should to anyone who has the slightest interest in football but if you showed a piece of paper to someone who has never watched or ever taken an interest in football they would look at the team with the most silverware and say they were the best football team ever. But we know they aren’t because you have to look at the bigger picture. In my opinion the same philosophy should be applied with managers but that’s just my opinion.

Wasn't that Ranieri's one and only title as a manager? That Leicester win was more to do with circumstances all aligning than his outstanding ability as a coach.

It would show the club in liquidation had won 54 titles and the current club has won one.

What on earth are you talking about, Man City's squad cost over £300 MILLION more than Liverpool's.
Man City will always have to pay more than Liverpool for players. Like others have pointed out transfer fee doesn’t equal player quality

Are you saying the most expensive player should always win player of the season?

In the end, Man City season was more successful than liverpools

Re-reading this thread is a beauty like!

The posts from way back in August 2020 😂 😂

My goodness, I've just had a good old chuckle.

No wonder Pog has gone into hiding. What a clown he was. I actually miss his ridiculous opinions on football, in which 9 times out of 10 he ends up with egg on his face.

He'll probably need to beat Inter for the narrative to stop.

Clearly one of, if not the best managers in the world, but it's the Champions League that people hold over him.

Same nonsense people did with Messi because he hadn't won a trophy with Argentina

It’s not nonsense tho. Football is about winning things. If debates are to end there has to be a natural conclusion which satisfies different perspectives. Pep winning the CL with another club will satisfy another perspective and help conclude the debate, just as Messi winning the WC has.
