Formula 1 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix

Plus Verstappen didn't seem that upset with qualifying third. Accepted he had made a mistake but I think he fancies his chances of winning the race. As well as the cars being more closely matched I think Verstappen seems to have matured and is looking more composed.
Yeah, I think he knows if it stays dry he's on the right tyres and Perez isn't . Be interesting to see if team orders are in force this early on, or will Checo get a chance to go for it?

I love Lewis but to suggest he no longer has the fastest car is laughable.

You can argue that red bull have 'as fast a car' mind.

Unfortunately with an absolute nothing driver like Bottas in second seat you can't really know.
It's not really laughable at all is it. We know that the new floor rules don't favour the low rake cars, which the Mercedes has always used. Aston wouldn't be whining so much if it didn't.

The other thing that defined the Mercedes was the HPP engine it had. It was mega powerful. It seems the Honda in the red bull is almost a much for it at the moment. So it's odd you use such a phrase as "Laughable" Taking yesterday for reference: 4 different makes of car qualified ahead of a Mercedes. it's hardly "laughable" to suggest something if nearly half the makes of cars qualified quicker than it!

If it wasn't for driver mistakes there would have been practically nothing between Lewis, Max and Lando so it would be difficult to argue that the rest haven't caught up with Merc

Qualy was really close - and not just between Hamilton and the RBRs.

Its a shame that Norris left the track- his pace was amazing. McLaren have not been anywhere close to the front row for many years.

LeClerc and Gasly also just a few tenths off pole. Ferrari have really found some pace.

RBR decision to give Perez a drive is obviously the right one. Verstappen has some support or some extra competition, depending on how this pans out. It will be interesting to see whether the 2 RBRs work togethr or race against each other. Perez was never afraid to get his elbows out against team mates in the past, and Verstappen is the same. A new challenge for Christian Horner.

Vettel again outqualified by Stroll, who isnt exactly WDC material. Its just sad to see. I sincerly hope that he gets to grip with things - at the moment watching him is a bt like watching a once great, but now over-the-hill boxer gettting chinned by journeymen.

Lots of talk about high rake cars - but at the end of the day Mercedes are at the front yet again. Its only Aston Martin whinging that is keeping this issue in the media. The difference between the Mercedes drivers is big. Bottas would normally be expected to raise up through the field, but ovetaking is tough round here.

Vettel is a driver who relied on his car to win him
Titles, i don’t think he’s all that, which has been proved since his 4th title

I can't see Bottas doing anything really. Its not a great circuit for overtaking and famously the car isn't designed for following. As has been pointed out: Mercedes are top because Lewis. simple as that, having the best driver is a useful asset. I can't see him winning today though with the 2 red Bulls behind him. It's actually a big challenge for Hannah Schmitz I would say. She finally has 2 drivers who can deliver what she's says and with having 2 cars together, on 2 different tyres, race strategy is going to be crucial for them but they are ideally set up to execute whatever strategy she comes up with.

Agree with Vettel. it was sad last year but he admitted Leclerc was the man, and he's plenty quick. Stroll, I don't rate at all. He's good in the wet, and has moments, but If daddy wasn't around he wouldn't here. It's sad to see Vettel languishing. He seems one of the sports nice guys too. Plus he has named his car after a bond girl.

Interesting as well how so many teams had quite different results for drivers in qualy. Alpha Tuari spectacularly so but Mercedes, Ferrari, Aston, and Alpine all had one driver quite a bit quicker than the other. The 2 latter teams even more surprising in that it was their multiple world champions that were the slow ones.

See I don't think it's laughable to suggest that redbull have caught mercedes.

It's laughable to suggest that they no longer have the fastest / joint fastest car based on a pole position and a race win. Especially given that the consensus is that Max is currently 'faster' than Lewis if placed in the same car.

I did state this in my post.

Perez has been great at managing his tyres in the past but he's using the soft while full of fuel which might make the difference.

Or perhaps Mercedes know nothing will change through complaining, like a challenge, and have the resources and setup to try and overcome the deficit.

Red Bull never complained that previous seasons rules have meant their high rake design is being punished by the rules. No one forced any team to go down the high rake or low rake route. It's their own choice.

Perhaps Racing Point / Aston Martin should blatantly copy the Red Bull car instead of the Mercedes:p

You quote was "to state Lewis no longer has the fastest car is laughable"

My point was it's hardly "laughable" to suggest that a car that qualified behind both red bulls, behind a Ferrari, behind an alpha tuari, behind both McLarens maybe, just maybe, isn't the fastest car on the grid? Maybe it's your tone, maybe it's the use of the word laughable I took exception too. Either way you're wrong.

I see Miami is confirmed then. along with a permanent Saudi track to come so that’s two more tilke car car parks no doubt.

I wonder which euro track we lose next then.

I noticed Zak brown was at Barbour last night for the Indy car as part of arrows mclaren team. Seems odd that he wouldn’t be at imola given how well the mclaren is looking.

Miami is a 10 year deal looks like a Sochi clone as it’s around the Miami dolphins stadium car park.

COME ON LEWIS! .... let's hope for another win today - fingers crossed

Although those two red bulls look impressive.... and Bottas being so low doesn't help

The start should be interesting with Chico in front of max then there’s a few not used to being up at the sharp end.

plus bottas in 8th as well
