Football fans must be double jabbed to enter stadiums

Negativity breeds negativity.
Well if you end up sat near me at the riverside next season you’ll be happy to know I’ve been double jabbed. Can’t guarantee on the day I haven’t got covid and am asymptotic and unaware but hey. Unfortunately there’s always going to be some kind of risk….

Well, I don't see the problem with this. Obviously the detail and logistics need to be fleshed out, which is probably why it's back until October. Also, providing those unable to get the vaccine and underage are all catered for then bring it on.

I have no time for foil hat wearing anti-vaxers or the obnoxious refusnik @rseholes who stubbornly refuse to get vaccinated, despite all the evidence showing the benefit to both the individual and the country as a whole. It's the vaccine that is allowing the opening up and the return to some level of normality, including football etc.

If you don't want to have the vaccine that's your choice but don't moan if it means you're excluded from some aspects of normal society that are only available now because 10's of millions of people have decided to get vaccinated.

As for testing, if that is allowed for entry, then fine but this should be paid for by the unvaccinated individual (as per getting a flight) and should not be "free" (i.e.. paid for by the tax payer). The vaccine is paid for by our taxes and is free for everyone. Your choice.
Well I have been fully vaccinated and I still have a problem with this, but each to their own.

All about opinions.

I hope that the "threat" will have the obviously desired effect and convince people to get vaccinated so that it isn't necessary. Although when you hear that 30% of under 30 year olds in Newcastle haven't bothered, and based on current infections it's probably a similar figure in Middlesbrough, I'm not optimistic.

As I said their choice, but they shouldn't complain about the consequences.

I hope as you do that the threat will get more vaccinated but covid passports don't work. Nothing mentioned about, for example, the 30%of over 55's who don't have a smart phone or the fact that they're are more infections amongst the vaccinated than unvaccinated.

If it were a well thought out part of a larger strategy, I might have had some time for it. But it isn't.

Am not against this per se, but would like to see the detail, which given our PM probably hasn't been thought through!

Folks will just watch the games on sky or just go to non league games anyways if they don't agree with the vaccine passport lark for football matches.

As has been mentioned on here by others anyways, I don't think it'll go through parliament anyways. You are opening a door to further restrictions based on vaccine status for other illnesses and if we're not careful could end up with a social score system ultimately for things like using public transport, getting a job, accessing some food supplies, medical treatment etc.

I think you are forgetting that those attending will feel a lot safer if they know those around them have taken maximum precautions. Surely that is the benefit of everyone in the community.

It's interesting that the tories remove all restrictions in the much lauded, largely ignored freedom day and shortly after introduce very specific restrictions on football fans.

It's also interesting that testing is showing more positives amongst vaccinated than unvaccinated folks, albeit this would be expected.

What does anyone expect this to achieve? It clearly won't impede the spread of the virus as that is jumping from vaccinated to vaccinated, so what do we expect this to accomplish?
We are sleep walking into a police state.

no no no and no

Agreed. There will also be those who aren't fussed either Rob.

Interesting article
Is this a genuine article or a hoax?

If it helps people feel safer and more secure watching football then is it not a good thing?
I visit my dad in a care home and have to take a lateral flow test first - I would be happy to do that before watching football - would you?
I’ll tell you what I thought during the Euros at Wembley and I do actually felt safe there. Just download the NHS app where you can copy the download of your proof for your jabs etc. Only ONE issue was that nobody didn’t even checked the proof of your vaccination at all BUT I guess because security at Wembley didn’t take it so seriously maybe? Other than that it was all good. 👍
