Football fans must be double jabbed to enter stadiums

Football fans could be banned from attending matches if they haven't been double jabbed – according to reports.
This morning, national newspapers claimed government officials want stadiums in the United Kingdom back at full capacity – but only if people are protected against Covid-19.
The idea has been under discussion this week with Whitehall officials and the sport's governing body thrashing out plans over the past couple of days.
With the EFL set to begin on August 7 and Premier League’s start date penciled in for the week after, plans have been drawn up to require all supporters over the age of 18 to show proof of two vaccinations before being allowed to enter a football stadium.

To be announced before the season starts but not implemented till October.
 
Didn't we already cover this or did I dream that.

It won't happen because tory back benchers won't allow it.
 
It does discriminate on health grounds as some fans won't be able to have the jab.

Yet we accept some discrimination on health grounds universally: I take it no one objects to there being a minimum eyesight test to drive, for example?

The question is not do we accept this, but where we draw the line?

I also don't think anyone who couldn't go for this reason would want football to go closed-doors again just because they couldn't attend. In their position, I'd want other people to be able to go.

Its basically the same logic as your eyesight isnt good enough to drive so you cant drive, even if you wear glasses.

For those who cant have a vaccine why not allow a negative test? I would rather be sat next to someone who had just been tested over someone who is vaccinated but not tested

So far they don’t but there’s due to be an announcement on 30th July. Similar problem for a friend who wants to come back from Spain for her mother’s funeral, fully jabbed but not by the NHS.

It's interesting that the tories remove all restrictions in the much lauded, largely ignored freedom day and shortly after introduce very specific restrictions on football fans.

It's also interesting that testing is showing more positives amongst vaccinated than unvaccinated folks, albeit this would be expected.

What does anyone expect this to achieve? It clearly won't impede the spread of the virus as that is jumping from vaccinated to vaccinated, so what do we expect this to accomplish?

I shouldn't be surprised by anything this Government fails to do. Apart from the stamped paper showing the vaccination type, batch and date, I have full access to all my medical records via the US de facto standard, Epic/Mychart, which clearly shows Covid vaccination.
 
I can see 20k sunflower lanyards appearing at the football matches for exemptions.

This can't happen in reality unless it is a restriction brought in to any activity indoors or outdoors over a certain capacity. The theatre and a full cinema are far bigger risks than football in reality (although football does have the travel to and from which would be high numbers in enclosed spaces.

I think these are simply passive snippets to encourage further vaccination.

I know, yours was probably made in the same factory as mine, hopefully this piece of petty politics is resolved at the end of this month.

I agree with that, but you still have to accept that glasses won't be enough for everyone?

I've got no problem with people taking a test, but it would have to be a test by an I dependent party. As with fake "exempt" cards, it's would only take a few to lie about this for the system to come crashing Down.
 
Universities next, followed swiftly by a Chinese style social credit app. Now do you see why all these protests are occurring??
 
Don’t really see an issue with it to be honest . Vaccination is the key to suppressing this pandemic and showing some ID to say you have been vaccinated or a valid negative test if you cannot Be vaccinated can’t be that much of an inconvenience can it?

Plus it might stop those inconsiderate anti Vaxxers or lazy people who can’t be bothered from coming and infecting others
