Flintoff’s £9 million payout

Having your face dragged along the road at 22mph, with the weight of a car on top of you, I can’t imagine is particularly pleasant. He’s literally had to have his face rebuilt.

Several Crew on the scene have been off work with PTSD and the significant ambulance delay didn’t help matters.

Those roll bars wont do anything for a big bloke like him.

Also the insurance payout won’t be funded by the licence fee.

Not sure why you are trying to attribute the blame somehow on Flintoff here? His employers 100% to blame and they had an earlier near miss with Flintoff in another ridiculous contraption which should have been a wake up call.

If he can’t keep a car upright at 22 mph he shouldn’t be driving. At all.

I understand your point and it is valid, but the onus is entirely on BBC Studios. They have failed in their duty of care to Flintoff. Their actions will have been seen as negligent without doubt by a judge.
True , but the bottom line is you should do everything possible to look after yourself , if your not happy doing something , do not do it .

On most shows at the BBC, Risk Assessment is thorough and application of risk mitigation is thorough. Part of my job was to be in charge of H&S on shoots. I can tell you that Top Gear had a culture of flaunting not just the rules pertaining to H&S, but also to other things like deliberately misleading the viewer. I actually wrote to the higher ups on this issue and was ignored. You'd think after the Hammond incidents they'd have got the message. It continued with the Grand Tour. May was very lucky in that tunnel in Norway .... clearly a stunt that should not have been approved. It was fortunate that no-one drowned in the Cambodia show. When I was working on the show in the late 90s, a certain presenter used to refer to the production managers as "the department of production prevention". In Flintoff's case, there should have been intervention .... the helmet should have been mandatory.

Just for clarity he did have a helmet but it didn’t cover his face. The rim of the helmet he was provided with then got caught on the road and effectively forced his face into the road.

Jesus. No wonder some of the first on the scene are suffering with PTSD

The reason why sherlock 1969 is trying to attribute the blame onto Flintoff is because sherlock 1969 is a total di$k head

If he asked for a helmet , and wasn't given one , then the onus is on him to decline to do it , do all the risk assessments you like , but the bottom line is its down to you , nobody can force you to do something .

That’ll be why he didn’t get a payout, then.
