That was an utter dismantling of the type of people who have no interest in looking further than their own prejudice.

The policy is evil and those who support it are complicit in that evil.
 
Johnson saying we have to stop the illegal crossings and asking what can we do? Millions of people screaming at the telly ‘create safe authorised arrangements for people to seek asylum in the UK. Way cheaper and safer to get a flight to Heathrow and register than pay gangmasters to ferry you across in an inflatable dinghy. This will undermine their business model. At present even the poor Ukrainians are finding it incredibly difficult to work through the red tape. What chance do genuine people fleeing persecution from Afghanistan, Syria, Libya etc where we have destabilised their homelands stand? Fix the legitimate systems to stop the illegitimate ones. It’s not difficult but we know they won’t do it because the racists who you court don’t want to hear we have any form of policy to allow Johnny Foreigner's in. What a sick country we are becoming.

There's a slight complication in that, the Good Friday Agreement requires us to be part of the ECHR and follow it's law.

We would also lose all cooperation in law and justice with the police losing all access to crime databases. Any European law breakers/fugitives would not be able to be deported.

Oh and thirdly, the ECHR is so intertwined in the devolved governments that they would effectively have to be rewritten.

But I'm sure Patel and Johnson knew this.

we were fairly tolerant. Unfortunately the racist minority have been emboldened and the direction of travel is southwards.

I'd suspect the US would ensure there are repercussions, if we broke the good friday agreement
 
The Rwanda policy is not a deterrent - Only 500 a year will be deported to Rwanda, out of a potential 30,000 asylum seekers.

If it's not a deterrent what is it and why are they doing it? Politics. It's designed to stimulate the racist base that supported Johnson into the last election.

Anyone trying to deflect away from the above with 'Oh, look at Europe' is probably doing so to actually deflect us from calling out their support of this racist policy.
 
Coffey, the vile W and P Minister sent on to the morning media rounds conflating ingeniously the European Court of Human Rights with the EU when she says the European court has overriden a British court in what I am sure is an attempt to confuse some about the “nasty EU”. It has nothing to do with the EU this legal decision to halt the plane.

Called it last night. Was inevitable that they'd try and do it. Sadly many will be hooked in by it.

Posted yesterday and agree this guy would be great interviewing the Ministers like Coffey et al. The soldier, if he was one, was clearly making things up on the hoof and getting into a right mess.

Why? I am trying to add some balance here. Many posters here continually denigrate the UK, without considering the positive points. I've spent a fair bit of time in NYC and I found the division between races a great deal more stark than here. Generalisation I know, but true.

Possibly Boromart, but I think we still are. And also all the more reason for us to celebrate the successes of integration whenever we can to silence the racists. Clearly some on here (NYBoro) don't agree with this approach, but I still believe creating and continuing a positive message is important.
