First Rwanda flight leaving today

Rumored to be empty, or 'less than a handful' on it, she was like a slippery eel when trying to pin her down to a number on R4 this morning. The same on NI protocol negotiations too.

The “Passenger” list seems to be at Four, at the moment.

Yep, that adds up, what a waste of money, energy and carbon emissions..............

Truss said the most important point would be to establish the principle that people could be flown to Rwanda. A significant number of asylum seekers who were told they would be put on the flight have had their tickets cancelled after successful appeals, including citing evidence of torture.

“The really important thing is we establish the principle and we start to break the business model of these appalling people traffickers who are trading in misery,” Truss said. “That is why we’re doing this policy and that’s why it’s important we get the flight out today.”

Asked if there could be no one on this flight, she said: “There will be people on the flight, and if they are not on this flight they will be on the next flight … I don’t have a figure. The important point is the principle.”

The policy has drawn widespread condemnationfrom beyond the Church of England, where the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, said it “could not stand the judgment of God.” Prince Charles is reported to have privately described the plan as “appalling”.

Care4Calais, one of the charities that brought the defeated legal appeal to halt the flight, said that just seven migrants expecting to be removed still had live tickets.

Three further challenges
brought by individuals who face removal are expected to be heard at the High Court on Tuesday.

Our recent history as a nation is littered with new lows quickly being surpassed by others. This is yet another new low and sadly is another indicator that this government are marching us headlong into a very, very dark place not seen in Western Europe since the 1930s.

This government is disgusting.
Depends what you mean by 'recent history' WeeGord. I would argue that we have introduced numerous innovations that have benefited the lower classes before other Western democracies. Easy to castigate this nation without seeing the positive.
However, this immigration policy is an egregious stain that will only be mitigated when we return those deported and distribute the wealth of all ministers involved between the unfortunate souls.

Even before you get into the disgraceful humanitarian aspects of this…. What a massive waste of our money!

Allegedly £90K per head. But that’s not the point. If the list is reduced from 150 to 4 because finally there is a form of review of their circumstances, although some maybe rejected. It’s all just wrong.
People are using a comparison between these people and Ukraine refugees.
It’s being claimed from within the department that the The Home Office are already manipulating those applications by choosing, for some reason, to deny entry of family requests to one member of a family group…usually the youngest, a child. So no family is going to travel without one of their children. Job done.

The other annoying thing is that its being spun as a positive, as the reason being given for introducing it is to save peoples lives whilst crossing the channel.

We know this government are not interested in saving lives, the whole scenario like getting brexit done is to keep 'Jonny foreigner' out of the UK, unless it's the ones we believe are worthy and they tend not to be black or brown or East European. A racist prime minister, leading a racist government anf unfortunately being supported by quiet a few racist citizens.

I see Johnson is having a go at lawyers. Absolutely disgraceful and the action of a dictator.
maybe this is why he acts like a dictator...
Boris Johnson apparently told No10 staff "I'm the f***ing Fuhrer around here", Dominic Cummings has claimed after the PM said he has "learnt his lesson".

The PM's former top advisor claimed the Prime Minister repeatedly said this phrases throughout 2020, when the Covid pandemic swept the nation.

Mr Cummings has been heavily critical of the PM since he departed No10 at the end of 2020, and he was referenced a number of times throughout Sue Gray's investigation into Partygate.
