Fans Forum Discussion

A quick flick back through the minutes indicates I'm wrong, the club has only been looking at this for almost 1 year now with no actual progress - it was first discussed in the meeting on August 2nd of 2021.

Maybe in 5 more years they might have concluded their "research" and be ready to discuss having a discussion about a meeting to think about introducing a membership scheme.
I know yes.
We have tried to provide extra reasons for members cards, special offer games and various discounts. Tryinh to make a strong case for change now.

To be fair Rob I don’t know how you maintain patience with the club and the staff at times - some of the situations are an absolute joke.

If they don’t want to introduce something they should just say so instead of wasting everyone’s time with discussion after discussion that go nowhere.

That said I do sometimes feel for the staff, from my own interactions with them it’s clear that Gibson is involved in so many minor decisions still that it’s a wonder more staff don’t just leave out of frustration at being unable to actually get anything done.

The chairman’s drink is a prime example - not up for discussion at all as Gibson won’t even consider making any changes to it.

Gold cards yet another - if you haven’t got one you can never ever earn one even if you have a card for 20+ years - it’s nonsensical. Especially now with them attributing additional loyalty points to this - each rung of the loyalty ladder should be obtainable over time with the right amount of loyalty shown.

The club have had University students carrying out a case study on membership. That should be complete now. Gibbo ultimately has to sign off any new membership schemes.

I think at the next meeting rob, the gambling sponsor on the shirt needs adding to the agenda for discussion, there are a lot of fans myself included who are not happy with the club being associated with commercial enterprises which cause abject misery for so many individuals.
Either give the fans the option to purchase the shirt without the sponsor or better still the club cut ties after this deal with all gambling companies. At the very least the club needs to made aware of the displeasure of many supporters with less than ethical businesses associations over the past seasons, from ramsdens to 32 red to unibet., completely unacceptable in times of financial hardship.

The club are very reluctant to offer one off cheap/reduced price tickets. They don't believe they work in attracting fans back or making the club money.

Remind me what the reason was for getting rid of the pride card?
It has been gone for quite a few seasons now - I cannot remember the timing of when/why it went. But at that specific point the club obviously felt it wasn't needed anymore.
We are arguing that it certainly is needed now.

We will argue that because of the special nature of the new season with fixtures crammed in either side of a World Cup break, at a time of real hardship, that there is a real need for offers.

The club said the Pride Card was not popular, but we don't know the numbers. I think it ended around 2014. We always kept one to get cheaper extra tickets. tickets that may not have been bought at the higher price.

I would expect they are about £3 to manufacture as they have to be able to access many turnstiles potentially if paper tickets are not issued. It might be possibkle now to have an electronic version of the card to save it being manufactured. Then bring the membership fee down to £5.

I would charge £10 for one adult one per season for physical card and then allow £5 off each ticket issued - so the card pays for itself for the fan after 2 games. Its good for that 8 game a season fan that would not buy a season ticket or not able to.

I am sure STs are transferred at present to non STs for some games that STs can't get to, but there must be fans who can't do this and need to buy a ticket, but are reluctant to pay £29 upward, but would pay say £24.

I dread to think how much walk up prices will be next season.

Offers have to be clever and create win/win scenarios.

If the club just said £20 for adults £15 for young adults/OAPs and £10 for kids - fans would be happy but season ticket sales would significantly drop and I doubt average crowds would be much higher and revenue would be down and then that would affect team wages.

Best to make offers with the Pride/Membership Card or possible make a few offers for the mid week games which probably attracts more price conscious fans.

Membership cards would be a miles better idea. Everyone is used to the season cards.. just have different levels of membership.

Most other clubs have a membership scheme, surely just a simple addition to the digital account for those taking out and by providing membership cards rather than paper tickets for entry will pay for itself in a season both administratively and with increased attendances, for example members pay £10 to £20 per year and get £2 off the walk price for each game they attend.

I agree with a membership type scheme, but £2 is too low to make a difference imo needs to £5 per ticket reduction on an adult ticket.

Whike tickets are over £25 I would guess marginal fans will just say its too much.

Paying for a membership card encourages you to use it.

I have a 15/16 card still in my wallet, so I'm guessing that was the last year of them having it.

Did they stop it as we were in the PL and then just not reinstate it?

Yes it might well have been - I remember at the time there seemed less need for the card and that would fit in with being in the Premier League.

I think last time it only got you £2 off the normal ticket price and cost maybe £10. But it also gave you priority for away tickets and you might not be able to do that anymore with the new points system.

This is usually done to give students experience. It will be interesting to see their findings and get them debated. I won’t hold my breath tho.

In a nutshell - if it doesn’t advantage the club it doesn’t happen.
Community club eh?
