European Super League to be announced tonight - 9:30pm

Are they threatening to leave the EPL or just UEFA’s champions league?
I can’t see how this effects is. All that will happen is that EVERTON AND west Han will be in the champions league

what am I missing?

One thing no one has mentioned yet is what about those that remain as do the Chinese govt continue to bank roll wolves knowing they will never reach the top level of a closed shop.

as will these foreign owners be happy to be “left behind”
true and both the prem and the european super league would be competitors for the same advertising revenue and air time. This could ripple down the leagues and kill many clubs within 3 or 4 years.

The Premier League and UEFA are threatening to expel them from all leagues if they go ahead with it.

The FAs will ban players at these clubs from representing the national teams too.

Apparently. 6 English teams, 3 Spanish and 3 Italian as founding members.

Two groups of 10 teams. Top 4 from each group to meet in the quarter-final stage. Midweek competition to begin in a couple years time.

Your move UEFA and FIFA. Ban them from next year's European competitions. Then ban all players from international competitions. Never happen but we can hope.
Totally agree Jan - greed, greed and more greed.

Well that’s good for us.

is just a ploy to get more money from Uefa

No I don't, I think Gary is a decent guy with a sense of integrity, can't say that for some of the others, but he's a good egg
Don't get me wrong I like Neville, he's a smart man, has his ear to ground and gets what the public wants but I'd be very surprised if he turned down a gig commenting on this boys club 'friendly league'.

I think the only way they can join it is by leaving UEFA (as of course they won't sanction this new competition) which means they would have to leave the EPL?

Believe so. They obviously think they hold all the cards. Feel that expelling them would devalue the prem league and have financial impact at the next advertising and TV negotiations. They might have misjudged this.

I for one won't pay to watch european super league, I have zero interest. I don't even watch the champions league anymore because of the greed element. If it goes ahead I will add any advertisers to my list of banned companies, and hope that everyone else takes that moral stance. The football pyramid is sacrosanct, it's part of our cultural heritage, 133 years of history, if a company helps tear it up they can get f...d having my money.

Great.
how does that bother us? So when we play Liverpool in the league the normaly empty seat won’t be filled by a plastic scouser
It'll kill the financial viability of the league as it stands. Advertising revenue will plummet and clubs will go to the wall. There will be a drain of the best talent in our league, it'll set us back 30 years.

Would it? Or would it just lead to clubs spending their earnings a bit more responsibly and wages coming down.

The rest of the PL clubs will be involved as well, there’ll be a breakaway PL as a fast follower as the clubs not in that super group won’t want those in it to leave, so they’ll do anything to grab a piece of the action.

Been coming for years, can’t stop it unfortunately.

If wages come down, then players will up sticks to Germany or where ever there is more money. No decent player will accept a wage that's a 1/3rd of what he could get in Germany or in a european league side

We’re in the championship. Good.
Anything that’s stops us from thinking that £30k a week in Assombalonga is acceptable to me.

mom currently watching Man U v Burnley. I imagine their are millions across the globe watching this. And paying for it, and the vast majority will be Man U fans.
I don’t blame them for asking fir more money.

Who would run this breakaway PL? The FA have condemned the idea, there will be no governing body to support it.

Leicester have won more league titles in the last decade and play far nicer looking football than Spurs and Arsenal. The most entertaining games featuring Liverpool this season have with them losing to the teams they now want to escape.

There is only Man City who seem to attempt to outplay and heavily outscore those other 'big teams' on a regular basis this season.

Based on the boredom factor of watching these teams (Spurs, Arsenal and United games this weekend!) I know that there is no way I'd be buying into that TV package.

How do we (MFC) currently benefit from the money flowing about from the premiership sky money. When we had it we wasted it on charlatans and the like. Would be quite happy for the money to dry up and the likes of saville earning £3k a week instead of the £15k he is currently pocketing, I doubt he’d be snapped up by the German high fliers
