European Super League to be announced tonight - 9:30pm

This might all be posturing for further guarantees of money for the top 6 in the prem league? We've been down this route before. Lets not forget that the Prem itself was formed under threat of a european superleague and designed to ensure the big clubs took the lions share, both in terms of gate receipts (before prem, home side 60% away side 40% IIRC; after home side 100%) and TV/prize money.

No this is about nothing to do with the prem ( they already control that) it’s about the uefa plans tomorrow for a new look champions league.

they want legacy teams they want their place at the trough.

btw this is all down to Leicester for me as soon they won the prem this was inevitable as the status quoted was threatened and they don’t like it.

PS just promote the top 6 in each division to cover the loss of those 6 and minimise disruption at domestic level. If any of them get cold feet prior to it starting then they can start at bottom level domestically after they’ve served a 20 year ban.

I agree about Leicester, and the fact that only 'traditional' champs league teams can't all qualify at the same time.

It has to be an absolute hard line response. Players that play in such a league should face a ban from domestic competition also. All playing contracts are lodged with national FAs and UEFA, so those contracts could be null and void should they be removed out to another competition outside of the current FA and UEFA structures.

Good riddance, let them breakaway, play each other 4 times a season or whatever and when they get bored then make them rejoin from the very very bottom of the football pyramid as brand new clubs.

Also make sure that non of the players from these breakaway clubs can represent their national teams.

From a Boro perspective it's a good thing if the premier league breaks up and is restructured without the 'top 6'.

One thing no one has mentioned yet is what about those that remain as do the Chinese govt continue to bank roll wolves knowing they will never reach the top level of a closed shop.

as will these foreign owners be happy to be “left behind”

Gary Neville has had a right go at Man Utd and all the other clubs for their greed and particularly during times where many people face uncertainty due to covid, during the Man U Burnley game.
Yet you know for an absolute fact once sky win the TV rights him and Carragher will be there as pundits. Money is talking.

Macron, the President of France has came out and condemned them.

It won't happen but would love our government to condemn them publicly too.
Don't be surprised if it turns out that Oliver Dowden (secretary of state for Sport) owns shares in the corporation that will govern the new european super league and is a consultant to Man City, Internazionale and Atletico Madrid.
