EURO 2024

I'd rather we took 2 left backs, rather than players who "can play there". At least 2 for every position.
left back is a serious problem position, there are slim picking to be had. Article here (https://www.90min.com/posts/england-left-back-options-ranked) shows the lack of quality:

1 - Shaw
2 - Trippier
3 - Gomez
4 - Chilwell
5 - Colwill
6 - Tyrick Mitchell
7 - Dan Burn
8 - Alfie Dougherty
9 - Rico Henry

Anyone below 4 isn't capable of playing in the big games at LB

For this reason I am surprised Rico Lewis hasn’t been considered.

Yeah he’s more of a centre mid who’s capable of playing full back but he is such an intelligent player he could quite comfortably do a job for England as an inverted full back.

That article rightly says Mitchell has already played for England and has been "tremendously consistent" for Palace all season. He's played against and trained with players who are as good as most of the players in the Euros already.
I think it's a very strange decision to not have him in the 33. I'm a big fan of GS but I completely disagree with this.

Yeah I do think Mitchell should be in a squad of 33.

I'd have Mitchell in the squad, but Southgate clearly doesn't fancy him.

He's not made a squad in over 2 years, with his 2 caps both coming in the same international break in his one call up, and Shaw and Chillwell have both had serious injury issues during that time.

As someone else said earlier in the you have to play bellingham in his optimal positon and fit others around him. We've been down this route before of shoehorning Lampard, Gerrard, Beckham and Scholes in the same midfield. It doesn't work.
You could also make an argument to say that you have to play Foden in his optimal position and fit others around him. They're two of the best players in world football right now and it's difficult to judge who is currently the better player.

Bellingham has performed well for England playing box-to-box, and was outstanding playing in that role for several seasons at Dortmund. Foden however has struggled to perform for England playing out wide. He's never really been given a run of games playing as a 10 for England, but it might just be the key to him managing to replicate his club form at international level.

I feel it's different to the Lampard and Gerrard situation. The reason why they couldn't play together was because it left us with no defensive midfielder. John Terry spoke about this on a podcast recently and said as a defender you'd notice we'd be getting over-run in midfield, as neither of them wanted to sit and protect the defence. That wouldn't be the case if Bellingham and Rice play together in my opinion.
