EURO 2024

Not a single Boro player in the England squad. Total disgrace.
I know he's not a left back, but he's been able to fill in there for us before amd given the dearth of talent England enjoy in that position, Lewis O'brien can't be far off a call up👍

I think we need to look at outscoring the opposition so I'm going with a one man defence, one defensive midfielder, six man attacking midfield and two strikers.

Kane Olise
Palmer Foden Bellingham Saka Eze Trent
Rice
Stones
Pickford
Love it! Haha. Reminded me of the San Marino game when they were losing about 4 nil, had not left their own half and brought on another defender late in the game!!!

Then my memory drifted to the 1974 World Cup finals when Zaire played Brazil, Brazil had a free kick just outside the box and when the referee was about to blow the whistle one of Zaires defenders ran out and hoofed the ball up the pitch.

I love these little completely unfancied teams that bring humour on the international stage ( a bit like Scotland I suppose haha)

Fortunately probably have time going forward with how weird Deschamps seems to always be in just ignoring certain players. Like when he ignored Laporte for ages so Laporte just decided to play for Spain, and then they were all ike "How could Laporte do this?"

You could also make an argument to say that you have to play Foden in his optimal position and fit others around him. They're two of the best players in world football right now and it's difficult to judge who is currently the better player.

Bellingham has performed well for England playing box-to-box, and was outstanding playing in that role for several seasons at Dortmund. Foden however has struggled to perform for England playing out wide. He's never really been given a run of games playing as a 10 for England, but it might just be the key to him managing to replicate his club form at international level.

I feel it's different to the Lampard and Gerrard situation. The reason why they couldn't play together was because it left us with no defensive midfielder. John Terry spoke about this on a podcast recently and said as a defender you'd notice we'd be getting over-run in midfield, as neither of them wanted to sit and protect the defence. That wouldn't be the case if Bellingham and Rice play together in my opinion.
Good points well made.

I don't think there is a "wrong" option as such, more differing opinion of how best to utilise the fantastic attacking talents at our disposal.

Too many options this summer up top. Really exciting for us I think.

Bellingham and Rice sounds exciting but I wonder if it will leave us short defensively. Particularly with our defence being our weak spot.

Tournament football is quite dynamic so I suspect we will see a few rotations and will be able to make our own minds up over a week or two and then tell everyone else why they are wrong and why we should be England manager.

I think there have been some big decisions from Southgate that wont have been easy, particularly Rashford. Bringing Wharton in could be a master stroke too while not glamorous he is solid.

Jamie carragher made a good point (for once) on a podcast. This season Kane has been the best player in Germany, Foden the best player in England and Bellingham the best in Spain. Exciting times IF we can correctly utilise our attacking threats

Yeah, it's looking bright for England.

However, Norway currently have the top scorer in Premier League and La Liga.

They failed to even qualify

As ever - there is no i in Team.

Florian Wirtz has just raised a German eyebrow at that...

And one of the top 3 central midfielders in the premier League!

I have no doubt we will, for me you worry and work on your weaknesses to be successful. Can we get a fit back 4, can we get someone to successfully act as the wavebreaker, slowing down counter attacks which is where we are vulnerable. If I was lining up against england, quick passing on the counter is how we are done.

If John Stones is fully fit, he's one of the best centre backs in the world.

If Kyle Walker is fully fit, he's arguably the best right back in the world.

It's only 2 of the 4 spots where there are even question marks, beyond fitness issues.

The problem is that our fitness issues are major right now.

Anyone but Pickford

Walker - Maguire - Stones - Shaw

Rice - Bellingham

Saka - Foden - Palmer

Kane

Defence is weak, so I could see him playing three at the back tbh.

Trippier looks to have gone off after picking up an injury. Currently got an ice pack around his ankle.

There goes another LB

This friendly was a brilliant idea...said no one.
