England very poor so far

What a boring game

No midfield presence, way too many backwards/sideways passes, flat, dull and uninspiring

Did the Scottish keeper even have to make a save? Just the one I think, in 90 mins against a rubbish Scotland side (n)
 
1986 - world cup England 0 Morocco 0 but we got to the quarter final and Argentina had to cheat to beat us.
1990 - world cup England 1 Ireland 1 but we got to the semi final and Germany needed penalties to beat us.
1996 - european championship - England 1 Switzerland 1 but we got to the semi final and Germany needed penalties to beat us.
2018 - world cup - Belgium 1 England 0 but we still got to the semi finals.

So having a bad result in the group stage doesn't mean we will have a bad tournament.
We even drew 0-0 in one of our group games in 66 (before my time)
Performance today was poor but it's not over yet.
Gareth Southgate's England has my support still.
They will get it right in the next game.

that’s all well and good, and I agree somewhat but it’s not good signs we can barely create chances against sides like Scotland. Hardly created anything in the Croatia game, or the two friendlies before.

I don’t mind drawing a game if we play well enough but it doesn’t go our way, it happens

but that draw was down to lack of threat going forward, which is becoming more and more evident.

Its not over yet but we look miles off being a team that can go on a run in the tournament.

I don't know why I'm surprised really, it's the same on here if Boro happen to go a goal down. Pathetic 🙄
 
Everything's either amazing or *****, no in between these days. England usually have at least one poor game in the group stages and this was hopefully it. Scotland had their cup final and played out of their skins. It's no bad thing to finish second in this group.

Southgate has been very pragmatic in his approach these last two games. It was what was needed against Croatia and we got the 3 points, but not what was needed vs Scotland.

We should have set out with the mindset of taking the game to the Scots and being positive, but instead it really did feel as if we were set up not to lose the game.

Fair enough, it probably is still a better result for us than it is them. We will qualify and Scotland most likely won't, but it was a derby game and it would have been bloody nice to have beaten them (as we should have). In years to come they will look back on the game with more fondness than we ever will.
